Do we now believe he can be in the starting XI next season??

I do. Gary and Mickael have been superb of late. Wes, Ronny and Lilian(?) to choose from in the centre of defence.

Buy Thuram and some striker and we're good to go.

:D

I've been defending our Wes for ages now, because I remember very clearly how good and promising he was - and why Alex backed him so strongly. He's been very unlucky with his injuries and I hope he can stay clear and get a few seasons under his belt without any serious injury. If he does then I am sure he'll fulfill his potential. He looked very solid against Chelsea, with the second most deadly partnership in the premiership to deal with, yet he settled in nicely alongside Blanc. I noticed he played on the left of central defense, whereas earlier in the season he was on the right - not sure why the change was made, but he did his job well and looked his usual cool and calm self and almost scored a goal. We're fortunate that when one class defender gets injured another class defender comes back from injury.

Actually he almost scored a both ends. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I have to say that when we scored that own goal against Deportivo I rather prayed it was Blanc and not Brown before I say the replays. ;)

I know what you mean, I hope though that those situtations will have mentally released that little hoodoo of Wes's.

It was magic to see wesley playing so well....poor Gerald hardly got a kick!

Though he did his usual eyes wide glares and moans

I actually think Chelsea's front two are top quality strikers, and it was good to see us shut out Jimmy-Jimmy for once.

Wes played a great game and oozes quality. I'd like to see him paired up with O'Shea early next season for a few games, see how they perform together, irrespective of whether Larry stays, Ronnie's fit, new big name signings etc.

Doesn't anybody remember Wes's performance agains Bayern away (whick btw came AFTER deportivo)? I do, and it's no surprise to me that he played well against Chelsea.

I do, as well as a great many other top performances from him in previous seasons.

Christie - I hope we do get to see that pairing next season as I hope it is our long term pairing. O'Shea's not played for us for a while, does anyone know if he's in the reserves again or injured?

Giggs from his Icons pages

We knew it would be tough at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, so to come out 3-0 winners against Chelsea was a great result. I thought Wes Brown in particular had a great game. Wes has had a miserable season with injuries but he showed on Saturday exactly what we've been missing and I think it's a great shame that it looks like he'll miss out on a World Cup place with England.

I've pointed out in another how superbly Wes played Vs Bayern

As I've said, that boy can be as good as he wants to be, it's all up to himself

Wes is going to be a rock for us in the years to come. Injuries have been his setback. World class will soon be rolling off the tongue.

His luck has improved too. Earlier on in the season, his luck was such that the block he made against Chelsea would have deflected past Barthez.
This time it went safely into his arms.
:)

Having watched him mature into a top class if not already world class player, he will definately be one of if not the best around if staying injury free.
I also remember him coming into the team at right back where he played exellent.Playing with Blanc can only bring him on
