  • Paolo Di Canio - the most obvious one. It had been my fond wish of seeing him play for us.
  • Andriy Shevchenko - class act, arguably the most talented forward in Europe, but I can't see us splashing for him; Seems like he will be joining Real Madrid, though.
  • Ronaldinho - can't have a party animal at the club.
  • Robbie Fowler - would have loved to see one of Britain's most talented strikers perhaps show his best for us. But, just because he is past his best, I don't think SAF will go in for him.
  • Francesco Totti - would be way too expensive and he would not have the heart to leave Roma.
  • Eidur Gudjohnsen - great forward, not the kind we need.
  • Raul - can't see him leave Real Madrid. He was born there and will die there like many of our own players have and will.
  • Fernando Morientes/Diego Tristan/Roy Makaay - not the kind of strikers we are looking for.
  • Juan Pablo Sorin - we will have O'Shea operating a lot more on the left side of defense or midfield a lot more next season. Expect the signing of someone like Escude.
  • Kevin Philips/Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - no 'old' strikers to come in.
  • No Arsenal/Liverpool player.
  • No Real Madrid player (including Roberto Carlos).

A few that I could conjure up...

There were reports of Florentino Perez possibly considering Shevchenko. Don't remember the source, and it might just simply be a stirring from the press.
