From a journalist who knows alot of rumours and inside stories etc.

We're offering Barthez plus Phil Neville and possibly some cash for Mexes.

WE HAVE TO GET THIS PLAYER. Regardless of Brown and O'Shea's development, we shouldn't miss out on ths guy. I'd rather get Mexes than Nesta.

I reckon Fabien WILL leave if we can find a good replacement (which we seem to be doing) and I think Fergie may still have eyes on Lizarazu so Phil Neville may be surplus to requirements...
 
But mate, all journalists know a lot of rumours and inside stories. They print them every day in their rags.
 
Not a tabloid arse who prints lies. He is a radio presenter and on his show they discuss the validity of rumours. Maybe you heard it yourself, its on Talksport. Cant remember his name though.

The guys there are genuine football fans and they dismiss most rumours as bollox but every now and then they say that they've got strong evidence of certain deals, like Vieira talking to Real Madrid was one they've been going on for ages.

These are the only rumour guys I take notice of, newspapers only provide light reading material.

I can see Phillice being part of a deal, but can't imagine him going to France. Can't see us selling Bartez without a replacment already secured, but can see him going to France obviously.

For once I agree. I would have Mexes ahead of Nesta. He is as good , far cheaper and soo much younger :)
 
Plzzz, let him come :D He's brilliant, young, talented and has a bright future (and he will make an immediate impact IMO)

Mexes looks the best bet of any young defender around to be in the top 5 CBs 2 or 3 years from now. And I hope we show the foresight and think longterm, because he is a special player, like Keano, quality footballer with the strong charachter to fire a big club.
I'd like us to nab him now if only to avoid the auction on him next season and the possibility of excluding the need for Mexes by settling on the new partnership that is adequate but less than brilliant.
Still, I'd be suprised if Auxerre sold him now before playing him in the CL next season and before gaining some french caps, which he must be close to. Also there is merit in keeping him in a weaker league, where he is growing in confidence and developing his leadership, at United he would not have that space, yet he might develop in a different way next to Blanc or Thurham or whoever comes in, because at Auxerre he is partnered by another novice.

Despite the fact that Barthez is going nowhere... :rolleyes:
 
I hear that his defensive partner, Boumsong, another highly rated CB, is being signed by Tigana. But Mexes is the more valuable one and they presumably want to get the best value for money out of him and do well in the CL obviously.
