Welsh clubs from EFL playing in the Welsh league cup

Completely understand why Welsh football would want this to happen, it would help their coefficient having better teams represent Wales in Europe.

At the same time though I'd feel sorry for the Welsh clubs if this happens. Obviously it's a struggle for them to get through the qualifying but TNS did manage it this year. Now they will rarely get the opportunity to even go through qualifying as it would just be Cardiff/swansea/Wrexham taking their place every year.

Feels like they want to have their cake and eat it as well. If cardiff/swansea/wrexham/Newport want this to happen then they should have to play in the Welsh league as well.

In theory, wouldn’t a higher coefficient mean that eventually the league would see more money due to more European places?

Doesn't feel fair to me in regards to the other clubs in Wales or to those in the same divisions as them in England.

Yup, never understood why a handful of Welsh teams get to play in the English league, Especially when Rangers and Celtic aren’t allowed to join the PL.
Maybe the Carabao cup should be fecked off and have a UK super cup instead.

Let's be real if Coleman and co really wanted to help the game in Wales they'd be looking at a new Cymru Premier with Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham and Newport mixing it up with TNS and co but that wouldn't help their own clubs.

There's no incentive from a business stand point.

Tns has consistently been the best team in Wales and there average crowd is in the 100s.

Swansea and Cardiff have been in the Premier league playing United, arsenal and Liverpool. They're not going to walk away from that prospect to play Tns.

They would also have to strip there squads as gate receipts wouldn't cover costs, the crowds would drop as well as the standard will have to drop.

It's just not feasible, it would end up like Scotland but worse as Cardiff and Swansea are much smaller clubs than the old firm and there's no other clubs in the league as big (or even close) as hearts, hibs, aberdeen, both Dundee clubs etc

Well exactly, and rugby is just too far ahead in Wales for it to be worth it. But Swansea and Wrexham snapping up European money at the expense of Welsh league clubs hurts Welsh football, it doesn't help it imo. The altruism angle is obviously disingenuous.

I guess in theory it would. But even with the extra money Welsh clubs would get, theyd never get to the point of being able to compete with the efl sides in the Welsh Cup.

Meaning Welsh clubs only means of qualifying is through the league. Which is only one spot I believe (anyone correct me if I'm wrong), still seems unfair to me.

As someone who regularly watches the Cymru Premier I am all for this. There are four European places up for grabs next season, one will obviously go to one of the bigger 4 but 3 will remain solely for Welsh league sides as our coefficient has increased back to 4 teams.

The league has to get more exposure to grow and anything that adds more attention to this league the better.

They don't "get to play in the English league", they joined the English pyramid system and earned their positions. I'm sure Rangers and Celtic would be able to do the same if they wanted, they can't just join the PL.

Seems a bit unfair on other league one clubs that Welsh teams would have the chance to compete for an extra £5 million or so (conference league qualifying money).

How would they fit in all the extra games of a Welsh cup and European football on top of a championship or league one schedule.

Missing the point somewhat for the sake of being a pedantic fathead. You know what I’m getting at.
Point being they play in the English system, not the Welsh system even though they are based in Wales. I’m sure you recognise Wales is a different country? (As Scotland is)
TNS or Aberystwyth for example aren’t in the EFL, so why are Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham etc?

You haven't picked great examples. TNS are based in England and play in the Welsh league system. There are English teams playing in the Scottish system too.

There are plenty of instances all over the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...lubs_playing_in_the_league_of_another_country. Especially involving small nations without much of a competitive league that have clubs big enough to compete in the league system of a bigger (and usually somehow related) country. Monaco is its own country, but they obviously play in the French league. FC Andorra in the Spanish system.

The Welsh league itself is fairly new. It didn't exist until the 1990s. As an example, Wrexham were founded in 1864 (long before any league system existed) and have played in the English system for most of that 160 years. It doesn't make any sense for them to have to shuffle off to compete with the tiny village teams in the Welsh league because somebody combined the regional leagues those sides were playing in 30 years ago.
