The only ones we've been linked with have been

Crespo
Lopez
Ronaldinho (not for sale)
Eidur Gudjohnsen (would they sell him to us?)
PDC (not wanted)
Duff (strongly denied)
Cisse (not available until next year)

Crespo (too expensive)
Lopez (too expensive)

I think its hard to say how much money we have to spend, Pete's comments may have been based on the wage bill rather than transfer budget.

Manc...scratch Bobby Zamora from that list! i wasnt suggesting United bid for him, i would be more specific if i was. As this is a transfer forum i was suggesting he would be a good cheap gamble for any premiership side.

That's perfect, it's obvious that Duff will be our next buy...

Now that Bestie has a new liver, do you think he'd consider a comeback? ;)

No! veron has begun to find his Lazio form, and midfielders are more needed than a Crespo kind of striker

You might want to put Gomes on your list after reading this

NUNO GOMES MULLS OVER OFFERS
By Cindy Garcia-Bennett, PA International

Portuguese star Nuno Gomes is a wanted man all over Europe following the demotion of Fiorentina, according to his agent.

The Tuscan outfit was condemned to life in Serie C, Italy's lower divisions, by the Italian football federation because of their financial problems and their big-name players, as a result, immediately became free agents.

In England, Liverpool and Arsenal are thought to be possible destinations and it is not unreasonable to think that Manchester United, where Portuguese coach Carlos Quieroz is now Sir Alex Ferguson's number two, might be interested.

Inter-westing....

Nuno Gomes would be a very good signing given our condition, I mean we don't have much cash to spend on good forwards do we? He's available for free!!!, in his mid 20s, has great skill and potential, even more so than Forlan. Not so long ago he was thought to be good enough to replace Batistuta. Had a couple of bad years in Serie A, where his club was really in turmoil, so can't really blame him for the poor performance. Plus, he would have the most suitable trainer to get him to his best in our new assistant.

What's for sure is we defo need another striker, whoever it is. Unless SAF has something in plan with regards to giving youth a chance, we must sign someone by Christmas imo. Playing Giggs up front is a no-no unless we sign Duff. I'd hate to see two strikers out injured in a title run-in. We need a left-midfielder or a Striker, and if we don't sign Duff we should sign diCanio.

no thanks. Gomez doesn't belong at OT. Just a feeling. We shouldn't be tempted to settle for him just because he is free.

He has? What competitive game was this in?

Right!

Forget DiCanio he is not comming. We need youth/speed and potential. Someone with something to prove, someone who's hungry not some over the hill has been who still has a few good touches but will warm the bench more than anything instead of putting real pressure on the 2 playing strikers to deliver the goods.

If he is fit, I would take Chiesa over Gomes.
