Any fans of the Weez on ere?

A few tracks from the upcoming Red Album have recently been released upon the world wild intraweb, and a couple sound pretty decent. Like most Weezer fans I loved the Blue Album and Pinkerton and although I have liked some of there more recent stuff, they have never reached the same level again. Alot of the songs on the new album seem to be hitting back at people who slag them off, but not just in a shitty "well feck you then" sort of way, but in typically humorous, self-aware, Weezer style.

Of the new tracks I reckon Troublemaker and The Greatest Man That Ever Lived are both very good. Troublemaker sounds like classic Weezer, I can't stop listening to it.

Yeah thats Blue Album, one of my favourite ever albums. I really recommend giving Pinkterton a listen aswell.

Maladroit is one my favourites personally. It's strange how hit and miss their albums have been.

I didn't really like Maladroit. It was far too corny.

And I absolutely hate 'Hash Pipe'. Urgh.

They have some pretty good songs.

Elisha Cuthbert appears in "Perfect Situation" video.

Their last single Pork and Beans is very catchy.

Aint heard any recent stuff from 'em.
Used to like their old stuff.

their last record, Believe, was actually quite good. Not Pinkerton, mind but still well done.

For me it encompasses everything that Weezer has always strived for in their music. Tongue in cheek lyrics, languid verses and a catchy chorus with a great big wall of sound when it's needed. Perfectly Weezer.

For me Maladroit is as good as anyhting they`ve done. Love that album.

anyone else heard the new Single?

it's called "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To"

i think its gonna have to grow on me

Loved Blue and Pinkerton, some of Maladroit was good. Island in the Sun and Slob are great tracks. The new stuff has been very hit and miss but I have good memmories listening to Weezer as a teenager.

I haven't heard their new track, will give it a listen. Cheers for the heads up.

I love some of their songs, but I couldn't sit through an album. They were fantastic at the Reading Festival though.

Raditude is fantastic. Wasn't too impressed with Hurley or Red Album. Maladroit is still my favourite, and I have a secret fondness for Make Believe despite everyone else hating it.

First record (Blue) is an incredible debut record, better than most band's 'Best Of' records! But they've never, ever come even close to it again. Why? Too much, too soon.

The first record came out on Geffen, which is a huge label/deal for a band doing their debut record. The exposure they received - in wake of the void left in the music industry by Kurt Cobain - was through the roof, particularly for the 'Buddy Holly' single. And I think the songwriter, Rivers Cuomo, defined himself as a 'geek' and an outsider, something it became impossible for him to do on subsequent records due to the fact that he was a global rockstar. Thus he lost his songwriter's identity really.

I mean, compare all the heart-wrenching, self loathingly awkward love lyrics on the Blue record to the first song on Pinkerton - 'Tired Of Sex'. That says it all, if they'd've put their first record out on an indie label, gathered a cult following and THEN signed to a major I genuinely think their follow up material would've been better.

I do like Weezer, but it always niggles at me that they could've been so much more.
