From ManUtd.com:

Watford boss Ray Lewington wants to keep hold of United youngster Danny Webber - the 19-year-old starlet has impressed at Vicarage Road whilst on loan with the Hornets.

The First Division high-flyers are aiming for promotion to the Premiership, and Lewington wants Webber to remain with his Watford squad for the rest of the season.

Lewington said: "We haven't spoken to Man Utd about extending his deal as yet but it comes to an end in November and we are hopeful we can sort it out.

"Alex Ferguson said at the start of this that three months was the maximum at that time, so we'll have to see what the situation is now. If we can extend it we'll be very happy indeed."

"Danny does a hell of a lot of work outside and around the box and creates a lot of chances for himself," the Watford boss added.

"Sometimes he chooses the wrong options but you'll always go with Dan because he brings so much into every game."

feck off, you can't have him! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

Hmmmmm, would rather see him stay to be honest, but at least he's getting first team experience behind him out of it

Bearing in mind we are short of strikers, it would be nice to think that SAF intends to bring him into the first team picture when he returns from Watford. I just have the feeling that Fergie doesn't rate him for whatever reason and it's only a matter of time before he moves on a la Mackem, Healy, Notman etc. Pity because he seems to have plenty of potential for this untrained observer.

I get the impression that Alex refused to make it a longer loan because he wants to play him in some Cup games and try him as a sub in the Premiership.

Good news ! However, whilst I realise it's practical to give youngsters a go in the Cups, the very nature of such a policy means that you give a run out to quite a few at the same time which means overall its an under strength side and one that's likely to be given the run around by stronger teams (a la Arsenal in the WC last season). Consequently no one's reputation is enhanced and perhaps confidence is dented somewhat. Alternatively, and I know SAF has hinted at this, it would be nice to see Webber given a chance and to be more fairly judged in a big PL or even CL game albeit initially as sub when he can be given adequate support and service from which he can really show what he can do. Hopefully sub appearances will be longer than five minutes, which is also useless for a youngster wanting to prove himself.

After we've beaten Olympiakos away we should've already have won the group. That would in reality mean we have two frendlies to play v. Maccabi and Leverkusen. Perfect for testing a few youngsters. Esp. v. Leverkusen, at Old Trafford againgst top quality opposition.
