Blackburn boss Graeme Souness has reiterated he will not pay over the odds to reunite Dwight Yorke with Andy Cole at Ewood Park.
Souness has made the former Trinidad and Tobago hitman his number one target in the transfer market this summer as he seeks to bolster his squad.
He made an enquiry over Yorke's availability at the end of the season but baulked at United's valuation of the player, believed to be in the region of £6million.
But Yorke remains on Souness's wanted list even though United do not appear to have lowered their asking price.
"I would like to bring Dwight Yorke here if we could afford to do the deal," said Souness.
"But right now the asking price is beyond our valuation given that he's entering the last year of his contract."
Rovers are believed to be willing to pay a maximum of £4.5million for the striker, who cost United £12.6million when they signed him from Aston Villa four years ago, but unless Sir Alex Ferguson lowers the fee, the proposed deal looks unlikely to go ahead.

£4.5million for Yorke ? In a heartbeat. Why hasn't this been done yet. I hope we're not holding out for £6m. <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />
