We should go for Thomas Sorensen ASAP!

Two reasons:

- I have not joined the "slag Barthez off" brigade but I have to admit that he hasn't lived up to his brilliant first season. He has improved a lot over the season but still isn't entirely convincing. If we are going to get something for him, now is the time!!

- I'm extremely impressed with Thomas Sorensen. Fantastic temperament; massive frame; no real weaknesses - and he's got many, many years left at the top level. I think he will impress in the World Cup and his price may very well sky rocket... This guy could become better than Schmeichel... - no, serious!

Gotta agree, Sørensen's performances have been impressive or am I getting mixed up with Steve Simonsen from Everton, as we were linked with him aswell.

Whilst he is a very good goalkeeper personally I think that Thomas Sorensen is overrated. If we are in the market for a goalkeeper then I think we should look at the following:

1) Edwin Van Der Saar - A fantastic goalkeeper who may be getting on a bit in years. Would be available quite cheap and would be bound to want to play in Europe with us.

2) Paul Robinson - A young lad with great potential. Leeds need to sell, he could end up at OT.

3) Roy Carroll - He has the ability to be a United number one.

4) Epopolidus - I've spelt that completely wrong but I am a fan of the Greek International goalkeeper.

5) Laundreau - What are people's opinions of him now? French number two to Fabien.

If the need be, Laundreau, although reports suggest he is on the verge of sigining for Barcelona or Sebastien Frey of Parma.

I don't think we need another keeper yet, Barthez is quality despite his eraticism at times. Movement and shot stopping is second to none.

You must be joking?! How much have you seen Thomas Sorensen play? Paul Robinson, Roy Carroll better? Amazing...

I am NOT bringing him up because he's Danish. I just happen to think that he's top class.

Did I mention that I'm extremely impressed with Casey Keller. Not cos I'm American though.

Where is Keller playing, is he on Yids?

He moved to Spurs last year on a Bosman from Rayo Vallecano.

In all seriousness, how long will it be before a bog club snap up Hapoel Tel-Aviv's Shavit Elimelech. He was absolute class against Chelsea, Parma, and AC Milan in the UEFA Cup, and would be great at United. I'm sure Roy will disagree though, since he's at such a small club.

bog club? is that where they go for a shit?

Two words. Landreau. French number two Schmeiciel of the fufure.
Else.
The "current" Schmeichiel Sorensen. Would be perfect competition/ backup for the injury porne Barthez.

Landreau is too small for the english game, he even makes barthez look big. I was behind the goal at OT for the Nantes match and he looked like a child in an oversized goal. Just because he had a good game against us people talk about him and he is a good keeper but just not for us.

From TribalFootball:
Arsenal, Man Utd in frame as Landreau rejects Barca reports

Spanish football
25/3/02

Nantes goalkeeper Mikael Landreau insists he has not signed with Barcelona.
The French international, who is also interesting Arsenal and Manchester United, had reportedly agreed to a summer move to the Nou Camp over the weekend.

However, the 22 year-old says he has not been in contact with Barca - who he turned down 12 months ago.

"I did not have a meeting with Barca," Landreau said.

"One should not speculate. We will soon see what will happen.

"In football there are many unexpected twists and turns so you should never presume anything until plans are concrete."

I read that as he'll be moving on to a big club in the summer, but no-one has actually bid for him yet - and the clubs being touted are just the usual suspects being thrown in by the journalist. I don't think we'll be buying a young keeper in the summer because we've got Carroll for the future, but a keeper at his peak wouldn't surprise me.

Elimelech is good - but I wouldn't bracket him as United class. Goalkeepers who have big games occassionally can be found everywhere. We have Barthez, we don't need a goalkeeper.

Looking at Barthez's mistakes, how many goals did Van der Saar conceded because of bad footing/attempts to be cavalier? 3 times already, United, Liverpool and recently Everton.

You guy are amazing!

I must say, that today, we could get a goalie much better than Thomas Sørensen on his current form!
- He improved himself much by going to Sunderland, but now he seems like his talent is "stuck" at a certain level...
If we had got him after Schmeichel he would have been a much better goalie than he is today IMO!
- There's still room for improvement for Sørensen, but he has to go to a bigger club!

But I don't think there'll ever be room for Sørensen at OT as long as Fab stays (which I think he will in a few more years!) - If Sørensen were a few years younger, he would accept to be under Fab's wings till he retired! - But... WTH... you can't have everything, can you?

;)

This is gonna make Jip Jaap happy:

From Teamtalk:
Sunderland issue Sorensen warning!

Sunderland will resist any approach for Thomas Sorensen after the keeper yesterday revealed his interest in joining The Reds or Arsenal.
The player was quoted as saying he wants a move to a top Premiership side in order to fulfil his personal ambitions and United were stated as one of his preferred summer destinations.
However, The Black Cats have now released an official statement with the backing of vice-chairman John Fickling, who has denied the claims: "Thomas Sorensen is contracted to Sunderland Football Club until June 2004. The club has not placed any valuation on him or been in discussions with any club for his services.
"The first priority for Sunderland Football Club and all players is the remaining seven games of the current season.
"The priority for the club in the summer is to retain its top players as well as acquire new talent.
"Thomas is very much a part of our long-term plans and we are not interested in selling the player."
Sorensen spent a spell on trial at Old Trafford on the recommendation of Peter Schmeichel before joining Sunderland for £1million in 1998.
But, following the signing of Roy Carroll last summer, it is unlikely Sir Alex Ferguson would revive his interest in Sorensen, who would now cost in excess of £5million

All you lot actually considering replacing Barthez are wankers,
Do you not understand that all keepers make mistakes and are still great, Schmeichel was a prime example of this, he made the odd cock up here an there but he was world class and the best we could have hoped for, Barthez is the same and he's a player who us match goers are quite fond of so shut it

agreed,

the difference between a great keeper and a normal keeper is that he'll be great when it matters and he can hack the pressure.
Did any one see Jerzy Dudek in the Roma game? The fella's a decent keeper and had a great season but in a big game like that he was dropping crosses and didnt look comfortable.
