Watch US content in the UK on a Mac

Is this possible. Tried using a couple of proxy sites, but they make the mac think that flash is not installed.

Tried a VPN too, but it made the inter web incredibly slow, so slow that you could not watch anything.

Yeah thats the VPN I used, and it made everything dial up slow
