well ttr....as much as i hate to say this, personally jedi master doesn't think it was a legit penalty...ok he was pushed and bramble's hands were raised....but he probably went down a tad too easy....but fairplay to ruud, he converted the penalty, we won, ipswich'll probably go down, arsenal will blow bolton away, shit happens....tough luck ipswich...still hope you guys knock the stuffing outta liverpool tho....

Rephrase then:

Did the ref feck up and award a pen when he shouldn't have?

Yes.

We'll check that in every paper you like 26.

I don't care if it was or wasn't.

You win some, you lose some.

Ain't a goddam way it was a penalty - my sympathies to Town, it's a nasty way to go down, but they've had the whole year to string forty points together - it's not our fault...

Too fecking right it isn't.

It's a tough old game, I'll take our share of luck, thanks.

was it a penalty? the referee blew his whistle and pointed to the spot...this does not mean he had spotted a worm and wanted the game halted until it could be stretchered safely to the sidelines away from all the studs!

ipso facto, it was a penalty! :p

Reuser after the match said on a TV interview that he didn't like it (told RvN that during HT), but claimed that he would have done the same put in the same situation. That's professional sports for you, no mercy, everyone tries to win in every possible way. So in response to this topic: NO it wasn't a penalty, it wasn't nice of Ruud, but that's football, that's sports, and I'm glad we got all 3 points.

Let`s get things into perspective - it was a penalty of sorts and the referee obviously thought it was a clear-cut decision as he gave it. If he had not been sure he would have hesitated.

My major point is this - I can count a number of times, too many in fact, when Manchester United have had dodgy decisions made against it by the likes of David Elleray.

Remember when Denis Irwin was sent off because he didn`t hear the whistle above the roar of the crowd and so kept playing the ball? That was bloody disgusting as have been any number of Elleray decisions I could list here but I won`t as they would take up too much space.

It`s a major drama because the Red Devils benefited and the championship race is tight but we could all sit down and make a list of 50-50 decisions or even blatantly wrong decisions that have gone against Manchester United. We had to bounce back from them and so must Ipswich bounce back from that decision.

The fact is - the referee is the man on the spot and the ref in this case gave the attacking player the benefit of protection from encroaching defenders. The ref is not paid to think, `Oh, I can`t give this as Ipswich might go down.`

Emotion rules managers in many cases but George Burley has to face reality - Ipswich will most likely get relegated because they have been very poor this year, just as Sir Alex Ferguson knows Manchester United`s poor form last year has placed the team in danger of not winning the League.

I feel sorry for Burley and Ipswich but when you play so poorly for 12 months, you have only yourself to blame if your season supposedly hinges on a supposedly mistaken penalty decision.

It's difficult to see from the screen whether Ruud was really pushed that hard that he fell down. I can see countless similar situations and most of them were not awarded a penalty. But anyway may be the referee really saw something we couldn't see from the screen.

town should not fight relegation battle against the Champions. They should have worried about it earlier in the season

Close enough to be called a penalty. Refs make decisions and we have to live with them. Happens all the time. Some are obvious bad calls but this one I think falls in line with the possibles. It's all part of the game and get many that go against us so no problem. It's not Ruud's place to argue with the refs decision as he well knows.

It didn't look like a penalty, but there was contact.

Stuff like that evens out during the coarse of the season. Henchoz, however, gets away with handballs akk seasons.

Some you get some you don't, Penalty? No.
But it came in very handy. Look at Arsenal V West Ham, the Hammers had a legit goal disallowed, if it had stood it could have changed the run of that match. Sympathies to Ipswich all the same.

Put it this way, i've seen them given before.Ruud has to one of the most accurate penalty takers i've efer seen.Consistently hits the side netting first giving the keeper no chance.
