Needs a thread of its own. Since i'm too lazy to type it again, i grace you with one of my earlier posts on the same topic.

'Also Warne got battered everytime against the best players of spin and was made to look a bit rubbish by Sachin whereas Murli has always been a handful against us. TBH i havent followed their respective careers that closely that i can form a proper judgement, since there isnt much between them.'

Ok aussie bitterness over Murlis action aside, who is better?

Both are very good and Murali's figures are better. however I prefer Warnie ( and I'm not Australian) because of the pyschology of his bowling. I reckon he outwits the batsmen more than Murali does and is more interesting to watch. Murali probably turns the ball further, more often, and has the advantage of bowling more often on sub continetal wickets.
As to whether Murali chucks or not, that will be debated forever probably, even if he doesn't his action is horrible to watch.

But one could turn that around saying Warne was always rubbish on sub continent wickest and really got battered by Indian batsman in particular, so maybe he suited where he bowled just as much as Murli.

One more point, again i havent followed their respective careers as closely as i would like to form a proper opinion, but whenever i see Warne hitting the headlines it seems to be for doing well against England and South Africa, who are probably the worst players of spin and top quality spin in particular.

I would say Warne is the more complete cricketer due to the fact he can bat and slip catch very well, and Murali's action puts people off praising him, which is probably unfair

and compare!

Difficult

Murali is better on the Sub-Continent, which is no less achievement, as they produce the very best spin players.

Warne is more like "everywhere" except probably India, he also has better bowlers around him to compliment/assist him in taking wickets.

IMVHO "Photo Finish"

Keep the chucking business out of it people, Warne could have been disgraced and banned from the game for the rest of his career. And the Don says theres nothing wrong with Murlis action so theres opinions for both sides. Lets keep this purely to their bowling performances.

Good analysis Sultan. Would just like to ask has Warne actually done well on sub continent wickets or has he struggled as compared to in England, Australia? Because that would negate the advantage Murli has of bowling here. Another factor for me is Warnes record against English and the South africans as opposed to against the better players of spin. Actually thats pretty much the same thing looked at in a different way..

High-profile cricketers and experts together with technology and sports science in the past decade has proved beyond doubt his legitemecy.

Abnormal action? yes. Illegal? never...

I reckon If Warne had played all his test matches against England/SA/NZ he might now have been close to reaching around 800/850 wickets. Indian batsmen have given him trouble. Sachin, Azhar and N S Sidhu in particular took a great liking to him...

I wouldn't care if WG Grace himself flew down, riding a gilded fountain of linseed oil and attended by an angelic horde of winged umpires, and pronounced that his action had divine sanction. That would still be countered by the evidence of my eyes...namely, that every time I see him he runs in and patently chucks it.

His record against Sri Lanka is superb.
