War of the Worlds - David Michael Latt Version

Worst film I've ever seen. No character development, no real plot, horrible special effects and perhaps the worst leading character I've ever seen.

It's hilarious up to a point where it becomes tedious and annoying. Would recommend everyone to watch this film, it will make you appreciate movies much much more.

 I've seen this too (well I endured about an hour of it before I turned it off). It's utter shit. I think it's also known as "Invasion" in the UK. So don't be fooled everyone - avoid it.

Don't know if you've seen it Hectic but there's another version directed by Timothy Hines that is apparently even worse than this one. I'd never heard of it but it occasionally pops up on e-bay. It's three hours long and is supposedly the most tedious film ever made.

Why do they keep making shit versions of this book? For me, the 1953 film is still the best interpretation even if it takes massive liberties with the original source.

And Spielberg can feck right off.

The Speilberg one is actually fairly faithful to the book. Obviously they had to move it to America, and Tim Robbins plays three characters rolled into one (the soldier, the priest and the scientist), but I like it. The book is one of the best I've ever read at maintaining that feeling of eerie horror througout, and the film does that really well, too.

The thing I don't understand is, they showed this guy waking up and then sleeping for what appears to be weeks, and nothing else! It's ridiculous, then he manages to lose his army friend randomly, then sees him god knows when later in a random place. I've never seen a film made so poorly in my life.

Good news, Hectic! They've released a sequel to this called "War of the Worlds 2 - The Next Wave". I've just discovered it on Joox.

Why do they fecking bother??

I found the whole concept freaking stupid
what kind of alien race has the brains to plan out this invasion where they bury their awesome war machines with shields that make them invincible and hyper advanced weather control tech and then when they start taking over the world everything falls about because they didn't plan for GERMS

wtf

Is this the really oldschool one?

Where the lazers on the guns turn the soldiers bright red, then they dissapear?

It was a fantastic concept.

It was originally created as a radio broadcast program back in the 50's I think. When they broadcasted the 'show' people actually believed the world was being invaded by aliens.

Aaah, I take it isn't the original oldschool version.

What's this one about then?

Yeah thats the trouble radio shows like that, sure the people who tuned into it before it started knew it was a show, but the people who tune it later dont....quite funny now that i think about it, imagine thinking aliens actualy were invadeing

When me and my friend found that movie we went mental. It's almost as bad as the first one. At least it's not two hours of that retard walking about and sleeping.

didn't rate it though... aliens lost because they were idiots. Don't know if it would have made a difference if I saw/heard any of hte originals... only saw the Cruise version but if that stayed pretty true to the concept then yes, it frustrated me very much

The radio version was just an adaptation. It was originally a book written in 1898 by H.G. Wells. I highly recommend it - it's much better than any of the films that were based on it.

None of that was in the original source. In the book, the Martians arrive in what appear to be meteors before assembling their "fighting-machines" when they land. The whole idea of the aliens coming down in lightning to pilot vessels hidden under the earth for millions of years was pretty dumb, even for Spielberg.

As for the Martians dying from "Germs", I think that's a good ending. Natural selection was a fairly new idea when the book was written, and the aliens were in an environment that wasn't natural for them. At the end of the day, for all their technological superiority (which was essential for them to even move around in Earth's atmosphere) they were killed by something they couldn't have possibly anticipated or - at the very least - prepared themselves for.

I only watched about ten minutes. Although I did notice that "that retard" was the director of this one. And the acting was fecking appalling.

Why didn't the aliens just take over the planet when we were all armed with clubs and their and their biggest competition would have been elephants in fur coats?

Also it wasn't originally created as a radio programme.

Woops, I meant the original broadcasted version was a radio adaption. Not movies.

I really just wanted to point out the fact people fell for it, which I find humorous.

I don’t think it was that true to the original story line.

Take it in context though, the original movie was made 50 years ago, thus there was a much larger sense of hopelessness throughout the movie – which I assume would’ve been the same in the original text, which was written another 50 years before the movie! – as obviously the technologies were primitive back then, whilst the aliens where practically the same in both the movies I’ve seen*.

The only reason the humans managed to survive the global assault was the fact the aliens couldn't adapt to our atmosphere. I think it's brilliant.

Especially considering it was created 110 years ago.

*well their ships look different, but the shields/weaponry’s the same.
