With almost all new mobile-handsets on the market now being fully internet ready, would it be possible to create a mobile-friendly WAP site for redcafe?

I post from my phone a lot, and though the site adapts quite easily to my handset's screen, all the little graphics and icons mean it's pretty bandwidth heavy, which means more fees, and it's also quite a drain on the battery.

I'm no expert on internet wizardry though, i have no idea of the complications involved or if it even can be done - i just think that since mobile internet is the norm now rather than the exception, a WAPcaf would be well received.

I agree... I am getting the Nokia 5800 and would be interested in posting from there as well..

Its completely impossible, the band width and usp required to process a wapcaf running in parallel to the real caf would lead to trojan viruses across the network. Broadband is the answer

I don't really understand that. But if other sites can do it without viruses, then why can't the caf?

you could install a mobile theme and then an add on to redirect phone users to that specific style. it wont require any special processing power on the server, its just as if you are using a different theme. Alternatively you could have an address such as mobile.redcafe.net redirect to this style.

Have a look here for an example:

Alright aliright....jesus. Sometimes I wonder who's not wearing the trousers in this relationship

I've used this site a few times through WAP on my mobile, using the Mobile Opera browser, and its generally fine for a quick look. The only problem I have is the screen width; the posts become dead long and you have to scroll forever, plus when you read the post you can't see the username to the left - taking half the fun out of thinking things like "spastic".

If only we could get the caf to look like this in threads: Admin/Mod Help Forum [Archive] - RedCafe.net
