Hi, guys, I'm back home at the minute and want to post using my dad's laptop (a lot quicker than this phone), but he's already a registered user (don't think he posts, though). I just didnt want to log on using my details and get banned. Is it ok to do so?

Hi guys, I have a second account that I don't post with so I can read the newbies but just want to make sure I don't get called out on it, am I going to get away with it?

Ask CZ & Askabob about that

oh wait, you can't because they've been banned for the last 6 months for this very thing.

2nd accounts are not an option for anyone.

What's wrong if you have a 2nd account that you don't post from? Does it strain the servers or something?

I know mate, I was parodying the OP. ;)

You can run an ip check on any of my posts and you'll see I've only ever had this account :)

yeah, I realise that Pexy but since more and more people think its ok to clog up the newbies, i thought i'd point out a reminder what happens if you're caught (regardless if you post or not)

The simple fact is, we put a lot of time in cross checking IP's, so lurkers can cause us more work, even if you dont post.

I still don't get this fascination with the newbiles.

It's weird isn't it? Remembering the levels of retardation from when I was in there, and the snippets that the mods post on here in time to time, it's clear that only a village idiot would want to go back down there again

Personally I'd just like to see my old posts, but I cant :(

Would be nice tbf...

I was once asked by a mod if I would be prepared to go down there for a while to shake things up a bit, it was a while back when a few of the mains posters went back down to try to liven it up.

Its safe to say I declined...:nervous:

Dude, you were voted to be sent down by your peers, I said you could stay up if you liked as you weren't that long promoted; you said you'd prefer not to so we sent cw11984 down instead, as he has a sense of humour.

There's an account called 'Feeky Magee' (no underscore) kicking about, I must've set it up and thought it hadn't registered or something before making this one. I just logged into it there, it can neither post in the mains nor view the newbies. Just letting you guys know in case you think it's a spectacularly retarded attempt at a second account.

Very brave of you to admit Feeky. Falling on your sword for the greater good.

Couldn't I just have asked my dad for his logon details and read the newbies while saying nothing?

Plus, I can't read the newbies while logged in on my account.

So, nyah nyah nah nah naaaah!

Firstly, anything connected through you home network vanilla fashion, will all have the same IP address where the Internet is concerned. The CAF wouldn't know the difference. So for example, if you have you phone, a laptop, a PS3, a desktop, etc. etc. etc. all connected through your home network, they all get the same Internet level IP address.

Secondly, you could simply have used your Dad's laptop using a different browser to him. So for example, he could log-on using Firefox and you could log-on using IE, again, CAF wouldn't know the difference apart from the browser being used, but I doubt that is logged.

I think that where I'm posting from now will have a British IP, because I'm downloading stuff from the iPlayer, so this computer alone has a British IP, but the rest of the network has a Spanish IP, that's what I meant by "vanilla", I'm not currently connected from this machine in the normal way.

Moses can confirm.

The router gets the Internet IP (external address) and then dishes out pseudo (local) IPs to everything connected to it, be it wired or wireless. Those are normally in a range reserved for local networks such as 192.168.x.x (this would give you 65534 addresses local and just for you - your router most likely only allows for 254). That's what a router does, it takes requests from the local IPs, goes out onto the Internet using that IP, and then sends the responses back to the corresponding local IP.

NAT.
