Couldn't find a thread about this, so thought I'd start one.

When my first child came along, I sold off all my vinyl, and dj equipment to make way for a nursery. In hindisght, I wish I'd put it in to storage, there were some very limited edition records in there, that I'll never be able to get back.

Anyway, now the kids are older, and the house isn't filled with toys, we've started getting back in to it, quickly filling the space we have with a load of good stuff. Picked up a lovely pro-ject deck with a set of ruark speakers that defy their tiny stature.

Any new releases I should be looking out for? Any classic records I should be hunting for?

Feel free to get vinyl nerdy, talk about your setup, your most expensive record etc.

Just yesterday I bought my first vinyls in 25 years or so; Nas Illmatic and MF DOOM Operation: Doomsday.

Used to have a decent collection but all of it is lost or sold.

Need to buy a player too now :D

I got gifted a vinyl player for Christmas a few years ago. I don't think it's top of the range but it's decent (I think anyway).

I've only bought a couple of vinyls since aside from the ones they got for me to go with the gift. Is it normal for brand new ones to skip a bit due to them having small fluff/fibres on them from the sleeve they're in? I had that with a Sufjan Stevens one I bought recently and once we wiped it with a microfibre cloth it played much better.

I have 8 cardboard boxes in my attic, filled with hundreds of records, mainly progressive house (is that even a genre now?!) that I brought back me with from London, 10 years ago. I kind of imagined my kids would see them as a goldmine one day but neither of them seem to have the slightest interest in music :(

I couldn’t listen to them if I wanted to. Gave away my decks when I moved.

I'm selling off most of my music collection, bit by bit, on eBay. Probably the coolest thing I had was Sunn's White Box, lovely box set of 12"s with both the White albums and some remix stuff. Bit of a wrench to part with it tbh, but not having a record player any more it wasn't going to get used.

After that I've got a decent amount of cool stuff, I'm currently selling my Sigh "Gallows Gallery" Double 12", absolutely gorgeous vinyl in a blue and black and a blue and white splatter. Again a wrench as it's a great album and limited to 200 copies. Less bothered by the Cult of Luna "Eternal Kingdom" vinyl I only discovered I had a couple of years ago, that was limited to 100 copies (silk screened cover that is pretty nice I have to say).

Definitely won't part with my original pressing of the Opeth "Still Life" album, one of my favourite albums that. I had a test pressing copy that I probably sold 10 years too soon as it's likely worth quadruple what I got for it at the time, I think there were 10 copies of that. I've also got some Nasum albums on 12" that are signed by Anders Jakobson, and some originals of school old death metal like Consuming Impulse by Pestilence and the first Disincarnate album (the latter I got from a discount rack for £1 in an Andy's records!).

It's weird what you find when you're starting a clear out, then check discord and your eyes water at the recent sales prices.

All the ones I buy I give a deep clean to before playing. Got a lovely copy of abbey road. But they must have cleaned it with some wax based cleaner. Gunked my needle up for 5 or so plays before becoming normal.

I sold the best part of 1000 house records. Always makes me sad now.

You should pull them out. You can get a good enough player and speakers for a few hundred quid now. Have a comb through them, keep what you love and stick the rest on Discogs. Could be worth a fortune

My daughter has got the bug. She’s got a deck with built in speakers.

She always digs through the bargain bins. Pulled out a Beatles single for £1. Added it to her Discogs collections and it was worth £45

You could probably sell them for a decent amount on Discogs, if you were arsed(assuming there are some good ones in there and they're not in bits). All City Records in town would possibly bulk buy them off you also.

OT: I spend way too much money on electronic music records.

I’ve been thinking about that for ages. Basically intimated by the effort of digging through them all to check on Discogs. Plus there’s still the dream that one day my kids will appreciate their old man’s stash. Of course I’ll probably be dead by then.
