Berbaclass
Fallen Muppet. Lest we never forget
Some buzz about a potential move on Twitter. Think he's a superb option but would cost a lot I think. Would be nice to pinch him and Amorim.
Not anti the signing but as an observation, he played for Coventry two seasons ago and went for 20m. Presumably if we're interested it is all based on one season - as otherwise we would have got him from coventry for a pittance. Firstly, one season would have made rashford look like a world beater, but my main point is that it would be interesting to know how clubs try to strike a balance between signing a player for cheap from a much 'smaller' club, and letting the same player develop at a bigger club in the hope that it reduces the risk of him flopping. So many players move to a big club for huge money, not long after moving from a small to medium club for much less. Haaland is another example, but lots of players in portugal too
*by small, medium, big there, Im not having a go at coventry, sporting etc- just the words used to explain the stages of moves
Buying a striker for big money after one good season in the Portuguese league is probably the second daftest thing you can do in the realm of football transfers, just behind buying a striker for big money after one good season in the Bundesliga.
I'm done spending huge on strikers from inferior leagues. When was the last time we got a good one ?
SAF knew what he was doing . Go for PL proven strikers . Watkins, Toney, Solanke or even someone from Championship.
We can't spend silly money on a striker. We should be smart on this and buy someone whose good but concurrently wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg. I am thinking of people like Guirassy, Jonathan David or Pavlidis
I think we should sign Sesko personally
As long that he's in the 30m-40m mark then I don't mind signing him. We need a decent cover/competitor for Hojlund but United's real issues lie elsewhere. The defense is a shambles with too many injury prone players in it, our flank men are simply not producing the goods (assist/workrate/goals) and our CM is ridiculously unbalanced. Casemiro's and Eriksen's legs are gone, Mount and Bruno are no 10s, Mainoo is good but he needs support around him and McT is basically a big guy with an eye for goal. There's a huge rebuild at the doors and we can't spend too much on a striker
Agree, although I happen to think CF is one of the important positions and would only agree with this thinking if we believe Hojlund is the real deal. I'm on the fence there so Sesko with a 43m release clause makes sense to me
We won’t sign this guy. Doubt anyone will for the money they want for a 26 year old whose two biggest seasons are one in the Championship and one in Portugal.
Osimhen wouldn’t have fared better in this years iteration of United. Martinez would have been a potential disaster IMO. United have paid I believe £64m for a 20 year old due to potential, not current efficiency. The (faulty) premise was that Antony Martial and Marcus Rashford were adequate options for a young player to develop alongside, and it’s a more sound inveatment mid- to long term than using similar or more money on a player that will have little resale value in two or three years time.He has more to this game than Hojlund has. Very good runner with the ball, strong, good finisher, and more experienced. But even then he's not a sure thing, the leap to the PL is quite big.
I've said it before but if we're spending 70m on Hojlund, we should've just gone up to 100m or whatever for Osimhen. Why fanny about when you can get guaranteed quality? Even Lautaro would be a more sure bet.
The Portuguese media has been bullish it will be nothing less than his release clause. We don't know what money they want. All that's been reported is the release clause and they know full well they aren't getting that. It's not a bad deal for them to spend £20m on him and flip him for upwards of double their money in a year. This isn't a player they've invested anything in developing.

Even if it isn’t, there’s no way they’re selling for 40m. That’s nothing these days!
I've kind of learnt to pay little mind to anything reported in the Portuguese media.
But you are right, it wouldn't be £40m. I'd speculate like £60m, which would probably be on the high side. I would call it an open question as to whether or not he'd be worth that amount, but Sporting do have the scarcity of the market on their side.
After what Nunez, Hojlund and Ramos have gone for recently, he is going for more than 60m
I think Sporting play ball a little fairer than Benfica, but I still think it'll be a chunky fee.I'm not too sure. All of them were in their very early twenties, while Gyokeres will be 26. Maybe I am underestimating the market and we'll see even more inflation, but usually in these cases players leave for less than their release clause, particularly if the player wants to leave.
