Manchester City are preparing to make a bid for Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic, according to reports.
An exclusive report from Goal.com suggests City are weighing up a renewed attempt to lure the Serbian to Eastlands in a move that would see his wages doubled.
The Manchester United defender currently earns around £90,000 per week at Old Trafford but he is reportedly disillusioned by not being offered pay parity with United's top earners Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand.
It is alleged that Vidic would consider a move away from Manchester United should his demands be met elsewhere - and a source has told Goal.com that City are prepared to stump up the cash
“City were prepared to double Vidic’s wages last summer and they are still are,” said the source.
“They have signed a lot of defenders since Sheiikh Mansour bought the club but they do not have a world-class player who they can build the defence around for the next few years.
"Vidic fits the bill perfectly as a proven and durable Premier League centre-back.”
The 29-year-old quickly became an Old Trafford hero after signing for Manchester United from Spartak Moscow in 2006 - winning the Premier League tittle during his first full season.
His imperious displays at the back for Manchester United have seen him be given the captaincy at Old Trafford this season as the Red Devils attempt to seal their 19th Premier League title.
However, any success could be dependant on Manchester United's ability to keep hold of Vidic with City expected to step up their interest in January.
