Veron

This ones bound to cause some debate, but i think we all need to give Veron a chance - it appears everyone is 'judging' his ability to settle on the basis that RVN settled straight away. we have all seen his true ability against Deportivo in his most natural position...Ok he has not been magnificent game in game out, but am sure he will come good...his problem is people overlook his passing, as he doesn't always play a 50yrd pass.

sad i know, but just watch his passing etc very closely......amazing

Veron is quality full stop. His heart, however may have been elsewhere. All the match against Deportivo simply does is highlight this very fact. If a player is capable of playing to a certain standard, but fails to reach this standard for 90% of the season, question must be asked as to why. I wouldn't be inclined to look to his inability to play, but more so his desire and heart.

I am hoping Veron keeps up the form he showed against Deportivo and would love to see him succeed at Old Trafford.

South American players should be given a year to settle in. If they do well before that then its a bonus. ;)

veron is one of the greatest players of the present times, the best time & place to judge him will be at the world cup,if argentina win it which i think they will he could be worth more than zidane,& if he's still unsettled/unhappy at utd we cuold cash in.

Veron is quality player and we all need to give him a break. The pace of the English league is so much different than that of the Italian or South American leagues. Wait until next year, if this time next year we are still saying the same thing, then maybe it's time to question his ability to play in the English league. Until then, support him, because we are really going to need him in the next few games with Keano and Becks on the injured list...

well i think he will rise with his new responsibilty as midfield-geeral, now when Keano and Becks are out... But thats just my opinion...

Cragnotti After Veron

Story by Rob Cooper 18 April 2002

Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti is keen to bring Juan Sebastian Veron back to the Stadio Olympio this summer despite the Argentinian's insistance that he wants to stay with Manchester United.

Manchester, Rome, Madrid, Bracelona. Where will Veron play his football?

United captured Veron from Lazio last July for £28.1 million. But after a season of average performances the Argentinian international has been linked with a return to his previous club. Time and time again Veron has insisted that he wants to stay at United but the strong bond he clearly has with the Lazio supporters remains.

Veron makes regular trips back to Rome and recently the Lazio physio helped the United star in his recuperation from a heel injury. Cragnotti, whose Lazio side are in financial trouble, is a keen admirer of Veron and he told Planetfootball.com "He is the main objective and it would be useless to deny it. We will do everything possible but the last word is up to Manchester United".

The Italian rumour mill has suggested that Veron will join Juventus this summer with Lillian Thuram who recently admitted he would like to play for Manchester United, coming in the other direction.

In Spain it has been suggested thet Real Madrid want him as world record signing Zinedine Zidane has failed to impress. Arch rivals Barcelona are also believed to be interested and are reportedly ready to exchange Michael Reiziger and or Rivaldo.

Sir Alex is looking to shore up his defence and has been linked with Dutch international Reiziger vefore whilkst he is believed to be a keen admirer of Barca's Brazilian superstar Rivaldo.

United still insist that Juan Sebastian Veron will be a Manchester United player next season but with the persistant rumours it is looking less and less likely.

good to see such a varied responce, i do think he will be much better next season if he decides to stay......just a shame some of the 'supporters' on our coach, are so so wrong in their opinions...I've even heard a couple slag off Butt !!! If ever there is an unsung hero outside of Irwin, its Butt..
I rest my case...apart from has anyone seen the comments By Riise @ the scousers!!! what a winker !!!

We get these stories week after week after week! It's all bullshit TBH, and Verón will be a United player next season.

All of the criticism of him comes from his performances in the premiership, which he is admitedly having problems adapting to (he'll get there in the end mind), but SAF bought him primarily to help us win the European Cup, which if he carries on playing like he did against Deportivo, he very well might do. Then do you think that he will want to return to Lazio?

Leave the European champions for a seventh placed Italian team that is not in the CL or UEFA cup and have only got 47 points from 31 matches this year with only a +12 goal difference? A club that has such money problems that they are probably going to have to sell some more of their big stars? I think NOT!

Anyway, SAF is too stubborn to sell him, even if it made football sense to do so!

top man, top opinion...

he was bought for Europe in mind & when he settles i believe he will give us an added dimenson...just watch him play, he makes it look very easy, but if someone else was to pass like he does through people, they'd get more credit.

regards
mark

Veron sufferd a lot from the passport scandal in the close season. That is why his mind and heart seem far from United. I think the lad needed to find a club, staff, fans and teammates he could turst again. And ithink Fergie's faith in Veron is beginning to reap the right dividends.

I saw a flash car with the number plate 'J4uan' in Boldon yesterday (near Sunderland), you heard it here first, Veron is soon to be signing for nearby Jarrow Roofing FC in the Northern League :)

What is his most natural position? The one where he doesn't have to play alongside Keano and Becks?

It does appear to be the position where he runs the game... When Keane is not around he does take that mould. However, I don't think that just because Keane and Veron play together his passing ability should deteriorate.

Veron will settle and next year he will be named the World's best. Seeing him versus Depor and remebering his performance versus Everton early season proves it. :D

Can't play with Keane ? What about that mesmeric performance against Everton at OT earlier this season when he swapped passes with Keane and scored a wonderful goal ? Listen to Raoul's 'Jaun-Pablo Angel' theory. ;)

points well raised on all accounts.
it's impossible to judge a player (especially someone from south america!) on one season. you only have to look at how quickly people were to be rid of juan pablo angel last season at aston villa and realize that patience in football truly is a virtue. it's also impossible judge a player based on a few games (good or bad), but the fact that the potential is there, such as he showed against everton or depor, just means that we have to stop starting topics about how crap this guy is and just put our faith in time. there's a reason why fergie bought him, and that's cos he's class. think about how quickly we all wrote off silvestre when he came (myself included.) there has been no better left back in england and maybe even europe this season. he's certainly going to be part of united for many years to come, as should veron be if we all just lay off him a bit.

an excellent comment to finish with, thanks to everyeon who added there comments...i do firmly believe he will 'shut up' a few doubters next season & after all, he has a few years in him left & hopefully will stay...Using Juan Pablo as a means to give South Americans more time is an excellent example !!! can't wait to see him in the world cup & if out player helps them win - fine by me !!! would love to see us win, but truthfully - i'd be happy with the 1/4 finals....

plenty of time to develop the team ;)

Great, best news i've heard all day

;)

why should we give players a 'grace' period to settle in. After all they are being paid for a job aren't they and we don't get massive settling in periods when start somewhere new.
Perhaps teams should introduce a 6 month probation period so they can boot em out if they're no good or at least pay them a lower wage for the duration.

It's really frustrating hearing about players who have a love for the game yet argue about getting settled. It's funny how when you roll up to the park on a sunday, everyone mucks in and it doesn't really matter about where you are as long as you get to play.

Perhaps we should be less lenient on players who quite frankly don't make that much of an active effort.

SAF can see the effort that he is putting in on the training field, and how he is going wrong on the field. He's the best one to judge that. And moving to any new job takes time - to adapt to the surroundings, learn the ins and outs how how that particular people you are with work and act together, etc. Of course it takes time!

correct. £29 million = 0 grace. For that money you do the business.

he's off to Barca.

Seba is a DON!!!!!!!

He does have a problem at Utd though, namely the shadow of Roy Keane. That is not in doubt. But to defend him, he has come from Lazio where he was the midfield general and everything worked around him. He has to adapt, and some players are quick others are slower. His performences without Roy are visably better. But if you look at the stats, he has been doing well, with an opta index score of 1517, the second best behind Keano.
He has kept things ticking over, and thats it, he hasn't produced anything that special from the middle, and that is what we are all waiting for.

But we must remeber why he was brought here in the first place. Europe. Fergie knew that in Europe in recent seasons our threat has been nullifed to a certain extent teams knew what our main strength were, the wings. Veron was brought to add a different threat and guile to centre of our midfield. He showed against depotivo what he can do, and now in the next to games against Bayer he can really prove what he is made of.
