LONDON (Reuters) - Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has walked out on Manchester United according to a report in Sunday's News of the World.

The newspaper said that Veron was involved in a bust-up with team mates after United's Champions League elimination against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday and had flown to Rome with his family.

"He was prepared to stay at United but this bust-up is the final straw and he will not be coming back," the newspaper quoted a close friend of Veron as saying.

"Sebastian is fed up of being blamed for everything and he is extremely angry at the treatment he has received at the hands of some United players.

"He has made it clear to the club that it would be best for all concerned if they can agree a fee with Lazio and secure his return to Rome."

Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti is still keen to bring the midfielder back to the Italian Serie A club.

Veron, who joined United from Lazio for British record 28 million pounds last July, has been repeatedly linked with a return to Rome where he still has a house, but the English premier league club have always denied the speculation.

Although Veron helped United reach the Champions League semifinals, he has not always lived up to his reputation as one of the world's most talented midfielders with some inconsistent performances for the English champions.

But United boss Alex Ferguson has consistently defended Veron against the critics.

Veron said last month that he was happy at Manchester United and that only his former club Lazio could ever tempt him back to play in Italian football.

Nooooo , say its not true - says the very sarcastic Liverpool fan ;)

Seriously though, there is no smoke without fire, I am not saying that he is not going to leave but things are not rosy in the Juan's garden.

IMHO He was brought in to add a special kind of creativity , a player that could turn a game when you least expect it. For £28 m Fergie is gonna buy someone special especially the way the board keep the purse strings tight.

However he has proved less than average and lucky to get a place in the team.

If Ferguson could invest that £28 m again he would buy shares in AIB or Enron than buy Veron again

This club has high standards, so I would be surprised if there wasn't some hard talking and a few recriminations after a high profile exit.

However no link is provided here and the NOTW web-site carries nothing more sensational than Veron quoted talking up the chances of Utd pouncing on any Arse slip-up.

So...either something got lost in translation, or a wind-up.

:)

now the bbc are reporting it as well...or more correctly put, reporting that it has been reported...

"The row, which began in the United dressing room and continued at the airport, reportedly saw senior players accuse Veron of costing the team with his indifferent displays."

looks like red cafe's boo hoos aren't the only ones not pleased with veron.

Yep, it's top item on the beebs website. And it's the Sunday Mirror apparantly reporting it. I'd like to see him for at least another year but wouldn't be sorry to see him go. He made too much of a ripple when he came in the pool and it's not settled yet. We need a defence. Not another midfielder.

I've seen the BBC story, but it's basically previewing tomorrow's Mirror story.

It'll be interesting to see if the club bothers to respond publically.

The team sheet for the Arse game will tell us a lot about what is really going on.

We all know that he had a bust up with Keane after losing to Middlesbrough 1-0 at OT.

If he goes, as long as we get good replacement, I wouldn`t mind. Maybe E.Davids????? He is a great player but his performance was shite this year. Didn`t help by the fact that Fergie was switching him all over the place. His best place is in the centre.

If he stays, I hope papers will shut up cos its not fair on him.

I personally hope he stays but if not we will move on cos there is no player bigger than the club.

;)

There seems to be some truth to this and so Bye Bye Veron -- hopefully to whatever club can pay mega bucks so we can get ourselves some decent defenders!

If it is true it`s unfortunate but I think that Manchester United`s priority is those players who want to play for the club.

I can understand Veron`s frustration and it must have been hard settling in England but don`t forget - he is being paid a hell of a lot of money per week so endure the setbacks of a professional footballer`s life.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going - they don`t run away. I hope Veron comes back if the story is true but if he doesn`t then

Manchester United cannot waste its energies chasing him and pleading with him to come back.
The club and team must move on.

If players are not committed to the club, it's time for Fergie to give the boot to them.

Regardless of whether it's Veron or anyone else.

jedi master has had enough of all these ramblings about veron....and to all the imbeciles who actually think it's good for veron to walk out, there's absolutely no hope for you numb-skulls....give jedi master them scouser nuts over you lot any time....bunch of losers....and especially to the bloody dim-wit who suggested edgar davids, how old are you, 13....edgar davids for united

Just for the record, I think the article is probably a bunch of crap, but why are people saying he's not dedicated to the club? because he did that? If it really is true, and he is being treated badly by the players (which I don't believe honestly, when has anything like that ever happened at United) why would that be him abandoning the club?

I've not give up on Seba, not yet. He'll come back rejuvinated after the world cup.

Veron goeth no where? ;)

Why doth the World press thinketh that Veron lacketh commitment?

Jealousy and disrespect!!!

As they opine the thinkest Veron deservest not to be in a United Shirt.

But feck THEM!!!!!

VERon stayeth!!!!! :D

yeah, the press arnt out to get Veron before the world cup

A crappy story turns up on some internet site and suddenly its front page news, the english press is an artform, as usual the quotes are iron hard, "a close friend".

I cant believe that ppl that call them selves Man Utd fans are believing this shite.

Load of nonsence, especially the funny part about 'He has made it clear to the club that it would be best for all concerned if they can agree a fee with Lazio'.

The one thing Veron has always been is ambitious - every club he moved to during his career was a step up. So now he'll run back to a club which as things stand (ahead of the last day in Italy) don't even have a UEFA cup spot!

Maybe if the report talked about Veron wanting to go anywhere, just out of United, I might have given it a second thought. But not like this. What a joke.

I agree. If the man wants to go, let him go. United doesnt want players who say "I like Man Utd. But my heart is in Lazio"

This speculation has been going on since he arrived. I dont think the press would carry on with it for a year. IMO there is weight to this story. And Seba is the one causing it

I've heard Beckham is talking to Doncaster Rovers. They wouldn't let 'im play on his crutches 'cos the players feel he did it on purpose so he could get a rest before the world cup and he feels it's disloyal after all the years of service!

Hope its not true but if it is we would be able to get Hyppia, Heskey and Viduka!

Veron seen training this morning. feck you ragpress.

Who do you think were the contenders for trying to hit him? Allegedly Keano broke it up. Just doesn't ring through.

These Veron posts are slightly excessive don't you think? Although we have had around 50 different Veron is leaving threads, we have only accomplished in repeating what we, and the press (which people here apparently so abhore) have had to say--and doing so time and time again. In general, I am against saying things should not be talked about, but perhaps we could either have just 1 big Veron thread or none at all, and wait to see if something big happens this summer--if it does, we can write about it all day long. I mean, the way we are going, Raoul and Niall will have to create a Veron Forum just to accomodate all this activity, and we don't want that to happen now do we.

i hope seba will get to read this........please stay and prove all your doubters wrong!!!

does the british press make a conscious effort to feck with United? i know many dislike the club, but do they target them at precise moments. today it seems like nothing but bad news from united: veron leaves, club denies this, players hate veron, club denies this, "giggs at low ebb", and berkamp saying selling stam was the biggest mistake of SAF...it seems like the press are trying to get united rilled up and pissed and all out of focus before the big midweek match.

Hope Bergkamp and Stam have a good world cup! Think Veron will have a better one though!

how come when i started a thread willing JSV to hang on at Utd the only responses were telling him to feck off?!

please stay Seb! next year's ur year ;)

ps. i can def see Roy breaking up the "fight" rather than being involved...man's pure class!

Veron did not walk out he was driven away by a friend in his car and his last words were " see you tomorrow for training guys." With an Argentinian accent.

PHEW...

Good news for ABU's everywhere... ;)

I hope Veron stays, he's class. I'd love to see him play well next season to shut up the critics. However, if he goes we will get good money and (hopefully) fix the defence. Either way, I expect a better season next year than this disaster - Euro semis and still a chance in the league with 2 games to go.
