He's fabulous at short backwards passes to team mates when he doesn't know what else he can do with the ball.

Gerrard was in those stats somewhere. 90% of his were long balls to Owen no doubt !

Nah..

It means he's the best passer in Europe...

Yet the scousers keep reminding us how Owen has the most shots on target... Then switch on the tv and watch how Owen scuffed his latest thunderbolt of a "shot" on target...

The one where he scored the winner vs Chelsea?

From open play...

Must say that impressed me, I thought the midget would have scuffed that shot wide from 0.1 yard out. Nevertheless, impressive shooting, a thunderbolt surely... and on target. Opta stats, spot on ;)

I can't believe anyone actually puts any meaning to these stats.
You all know that you can produce stats to prove almost anything, christ they can probably tell you Heskey is the best striker England has ever had, if you look at them closely enough.

Who cares about stats. All i need to know is that we are playing well, winning, scoring goals and not conceding.

Barry Ferguson is the 4th best passer in Europe, better than Beckham, Keano and Scholes! (and Tugay also!) <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I agree that the stat doesn't mean anything because most of his passes in PL were back passes and not assisting goals! But i think his passing ability can be faster and useful if he improve his left foot because I saw some of his great passed are all made by his right foot.

and the other 9 their just excellent. Would you consider Steven Gerard a better passer of the ball. (by better im valuing precision and timing, rather than distance, altitude and honest to god welly which is Stevens forté) ;)

it's a shame veron's sublime passing goes to waste in the premiership where his attitude, work rate and inclination let him down really. . .looks good on telly in the european matches, tho'. . .

;)

On top form Veron's passing is up there with anyone's, problem being he's rarely anywhere near such form..

Gerrard's passing is class..he does try the champagne pass slighty too often, but thats because so many of them come off..he's a superb crosser of the ball and all and will create loads of goals..

Obviously Gerrard is miles better than Veron at everything else an all.. ;)

I would

(by better im judguing on passes that go forward, to own players, stay in orbit, remain on pitch)

Veron is not a deformed hunchback though...

He definately comes up trumps there

That just shows that you only see veron on TV. If you saw him live week in week out you would know that his work rate and movement is excellent. Just because he doesn't always have the ball doesn't mean he's doing nothing.
His movement creates space for others by dragging the opposition all over the field

Gerrard better than Veron <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Theres only Juan Seba Veron

<img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

I think the stats simply reflect the fact that SAF has been pushing very hard for Veron to become the playmaker of the team.

If the balls had been going to Beckham like in previous year, Beckham would also be on the top with far more number of completed passes per 90 minutes.

Somehow I don't see the improvement Veron has brought to United yet. Although thanks to him we have some excellent goals scored both from teamwork and individually.

I am not surpirsed that Veron is the Premiership best passer. After all he had won similar honours both in italy and in argentina.

In my opinion Veron is a wonderful player. He doesnt need our approval because he had showed ample class in Italy and with Argentina.

Yes some aspects of his game still need to improve, but I think that if scholes remain as a forward, Juan deserve to be in the first team.

And plsssss do not compare Gerrard ( a defensive midfielder) with Veron. It shows how limited your football knowlege is.

BTW I think that Gerrard is an Injury prone overrated defensive midfielder.

He will one become an excellent player but i think that he is still light years away from Butt, Keane and Viera

Gerrard's performances are good because he plays in a defensive team where 10 players win the ball.He would be outshined in the Manutd team, where the words creativity And Attacking lies in the priority list.

Butt was England's best player during the world cup campaign and removing him for Gerrard is a crime.
