JSV may have had a poor season but he is a red and will get better next year. He has to get use to the speed of the game over here , in Italy they get more time on the ball. give him another season then judge him :D

i don't mean to sound pessimistic but on what grounds do you say this? i hope it's true, but you seem to think it's certain.

I agree... Sure he hasn't lived up to our expectations but they were high and he has been injured...

28 Millions were spent on Veron to get us to the CL final and if he does that by playing so badly ;) then I can't wait for next season when he starts to play like a man... <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Just Kidding, next year he'll play well I'm sure of it.

I`ve always been under fire on diz server for critizing JSV and many so-called " hardcore
united fans " think coz of it that i`m a wind up
and etc , calling me liverpool , arsenal or even
leedScum ( that`s the most abusing )fan . But i`ve always been " good solid United fan " - and i DO NOT need to prove it to anyone

Now season is nearly over and we can judge ,
but still Seba has a great chance for tomorrow
and if he does it , i`ll regret for critizing him . That`z 4sure - i`ll regret

Andy Cole(or Andrew) was slated but we kept the faith with him because we knew he would come good it's the same with JSV. Keep the the faith world class players don't loose it over night give the man another season

He obviously has bags of skill and talent
When he has been on his game ALA against Deportivo , he has always been in the middle and shows the sign of all great players always makes time for himself.
Okay he has been incosistent probably down to change in pace and injuries
Give JSV Time he will star next season

Touching.

Having a fight over a player that HAS BEEN PLAYING AWFUL for most of the games he has played for us.

And oups! he has a good game, and all those who critized him should feel ashamed. He has well deserved his critizism. And he has received alot of praise as well, but that's because we have a manager that OFFICIALLY almost never critizise his players. And we have a bunch of fans that will almost NEVER will admit a player is bad, as long as he wears the Red Shirt.

All and all is well. But Veron has been lousy. Anyone with at least 2 in IQ knows that. But if we get to the final, well yes, he has been worth it, perhaps? Because of his famed game against Deportivo? Maybe we should say IF we win the final he has been worth it?

Nah. A player has to play EXCEPTIONALLY WELL to deserve playing for us. It is an honour for any man to be playing our colors. If the player doesn't grasp that, he can play for another team. Because Manchester United isn't just another football club. We are THE football club.

:)

Agreed we do not keep passengers and for alot of games he has been just that
But you must agree there is no doubt he has what it takes. And I feel given a good pre season and the workings of SAF he will be a tremendous player.
At the begining of the season George Best described him as the best midfield player in the world on current form.I believe this was after Spurs away
win .
Our patience will be rewarded if not in this seasons champions league then next season

veron or no veron I doubt there will be any passengers tomorrow ... Roy Keanewill make sure of that

??? sorry, not sure why i typed that, doesn't fit the thread, past my bedtime.

That's nothing special. In fact even among United fans there are still so many people agree that he is disappointing/below our expectation, so among neutral fans the above result is just totally within expectation. In fact you don't need this type of poll to tell you anything. If you really have some football knowledge and at least a certain degree of objective, you know the answer yourself.

Any of you noticed that RI is very anti-veron? Here's a story from today:
Evidence of Veron’s languid style or a sign that he really does not give a shit?

The Telegraph quotes an Old Trafford insider OT insider: 'Veron does Alex's head in. He gives impression that he's totally disinterested in what’s going on.'

I can actually believe this, because all the traits that Alex most believes in don't seem to be Veron's - he was a most surprising buy because of this, because he's always had this reputation as being a kinda lazy, sporadic genius - the sort that can play crap for 85 mins of the game, and make two goals with the other 5 mins.

The fact remains he bought Veron to give us more options in Europe, and to stop our one dimnsional play. The has us pegged in Europe.

Having Veron got us to the Semis IMO. I would be more confident in getting through to the final with him in the team.

I don't believe anyone could argue that he has been below par in the league and that his style of play hasn't gelled well with the team but, it can also be argued that Beckham and Scholes had been below par also this season.

If we had bought Beckham at the beginning of the season how much would he have cost? Would we be going through the ordeal of having to listen to nob-ends like Davo and SSA moaning about how crap Beckham was? Ofcourse we would. But who gives a feck what two scouse poofs think anyway?

If we win tonight, and we can, I would not be suprised if Veron played a big part as he did in the quarters. Who knows we may even win the cup, with Seba playing a big part.

Then what will people be saying

"Fergies tactical gamble of bringing Seba Veron to OT for a serious push for the European cup has been a staggering success. In one season the Argentine wonder has helped Man Utd to the promised land, we have to take our hats off to a great team"

There's no doubting what Veron can do - the problem is how to get the most out of him. In trying to do so, other players form had been damaged, particularly Scholes - and our defense in the early part of the season greatly suffered by the lack of protection he gave. If Veron played in the hole in front of a midfield pairing, then this wouldn't have been a problem, but he didn't have another midfielder playing behind him so that was a problem. He has improved on this aspect of his game as the season progressed, though I don't ever expect him to be as good at it as Keane or Butt, but thats not what we bought him for. I think the 4-5-1 wasn't the best system for him, but the problem is you can only work with what you've got. We haven't had the personnel to, for example, play a 3-4-1-2.

My other concern with Veron is his Achilles injury. He said recently that he's had it before and that its been a longstanding injury, which he hopes doesn't need an operation. I'd rather he did have an operation if it meant getting rid of it permanently, rather than have him only half playing a lot of the time.

Above all of these, and probably the key reason why he hasn't been as accepted by fans as other players have been, is his attitude. It would probably not be such an issue if we were Chelsea, but an absolutely crucial part of our teams success has been the work ethic, the passion, the character, the appetite, that Alex has instilled into the players. SAF has sold good players before because they didn't have the right attitude, and if he doesn't succeed in instilling these virtues into Veron, then I'd expect him to be sold. We'll know either way by the end of next season. If Alex could work his magic on the mercurial Cantona, then there is good cause for optimism that he can do the same for Veron. He still has time on his side to become the worlds best player.

It's an amazing problem to have, but to gain the full utilisation of Veron is almost impossible to play all our 1st choice midfielders. At Lazio for example he used to play in the hole (where Zidane currently plays at Real and previously at Juve) behind Salas and Boksic and was amzingly effective. The difference was Lazio played with 3 true midfielders which thus relies alot less on wingers than a conventional 4-4-2 system, and unfortunately (in this case) we have possibly the two best wide players in the world. A midfield of Scholes, Keane and Butt for example would be the perfect ball winning midfield for Veron to play in front of, ala Simeone, Almeyda and Stankovic i.e. 4-3-1-2. However people may argue the old 4-4-2 was the best system we have, it was clear it wasn't working in Europe, whereas in the league it was and still is perfect. Just watching us at Old Trafford against Bayern was the perfect example of us at our most uncreative and unproductive. I for one still think Fergie made the perfect buy to solve this problem, however accomodating that buy without losing the grit and determination of our old midfield has proved difficult.

About Veron's work ethic, well i'm sorry to say he is and has always been inconsistent in this area. I remember watching him play for Parma against Milan where he was stunning to say the least, or for Lazio against Juve which Italians will tell you was possible one of the best ever displays of one player single-handedly demolishing an oppostion team, pure brilliance. However, he has never yet had a full season playing at that level and has perenially gone through a 10-15 period of the season where he was average, good by mosts standards, but for him, average. The upside of that was he would then (and he's done this without fail at every club he's played for) go on a run of a similar number of games and win the league for you. I think this year has been the first season ever for him where he hasn't done that. Intermittent bursts, yes. I read one of his interviews the other day where he explained how he's never had so many injury problems and consistently feels in pain towards the end of games, and his achilles seems to be the main culprit. He has also acknowleged he has had a couple of bad games. Considering all this, IMO it would be so stupid to write him off as a failure this season, or a money grabbing mercenary who has no care for the club. On the contrary, his comments seem to show more and more care for the club everyday and the will to improve. I for one am willing to give him the chance rather than listen to short-sighted people questioning everything from his footballing ability to his choice of holiday destination. I still maintain he could become one of the best players we have ever had at United.

I'm sure he will. As will the mercurial Murphy, Smicer and Gerrard.

Owen will score more goals than Pahars and the Donkey will score more goals than Denis Irwin.

Should be a breat year year for improvements methinks.

Thats true

Perhaps Forlan won't manage to outscore him after all..

I reckon Xavier will score 1 goal next season...
