VERON CAUGHT UP IN PASSPORT SCANDAL

Juan Sebastian Veron has been called to appear before Italy's state prosecutor to answer allegations of illegally acquiring an Italian passport.

The Argentina international and eight others, including two Lazio executives, are accused of the forging of an official document.

However Veron, who has already been cleared by the Italian sports justice system, will not attend the hearing in Rome on July 12.

The Manchester United midfielder's lawyer Marcello Petrelli said: "I can confirm that Juan Sebastian Veron has been accused of forging an official document.

"But I would like to point out that Veron maintains that he did not have anything to do with this, that it was Lazio and an Argentinian agency who deals with the documents that were involved in this affair.

"Veron does not need the Italian citizenship as he is a world-class player and with his Argentina passport he has always been able to play at any club.

"He never went to pick up the Italian passport, but he did go and sign for the Italian citizenship in September 2000.

SEBA is world class, he will come good for us.

Under the new European 'extradition' laws, when he sets foot in this country he can be carted off to Italy without any court appearance! an arrest warrant issued in any European country for whatever shit they think up is all thats needed. If he wont go back to Italy he wont come here either.

What happens if we draw an Italian team at any time then? Can he go back?
