feck me thats a lot of $ hes just earned himself.

Ive kind of lost touch with baseball over th last few years, ao is he worth it?

I'd say he's the best centre-fielder in baseball. Back to back to back Gold Gloves. Bats over .300, hits 30+ homers and 100+ RBIs, and has a slugging percentage over .500. He can also hit against both lefties and righties. And at 28, he's got plenty of quality years left.

The only centre-fielder close would be Andruw Jones from Atlanta, whose a year older, hits 40 points lower, has more power and has won more Gold gloves, but began playing full-time 4 years earlier.

the guy is awesome, he literally has all the tools.
It's money well spennt by the Jays IMHO, he would likely get $20M/season on the market so any savings they get is a bonus.
Plus the last year of his current deal pays him under $6M/season

I wish my Yankees would trade for him...how about Johnny Damon in return...straight up?

Damon is an asshole. Bullshit competing against Boston and NY, scabs spend like sailors in port (dirty buggers). Great deal, although I understand there are opt-outs for Wells as the contract goes on. Good thing is that money is low for early years so there is some money available for pitching (hopefully).

I've heard that Ted Rogers considers all losses incurred as the team as money spent on a marketing campaign, since you can't go 3 feet without seeing Rogers ads at the Dome and that every Blue Jay ad has the Rogers logo in it (or mentions Rogers in the radio ads).

If that's the case there should still be some $ left for a pitcher or two...

Money is there but not much pitching (of the free agent variety) is left. Possible trade for a number 3/4?

Zito.
Jays would be legitimate contenders with him in the rotation.
It won't happen though.
He gets murdered in the AL East. Boston and NY destroy him.

The rumour is that they may trade Rios for a pitcher and an outfielder...
Any trade involving Rios would need a No 1 or No 2 starter in the mix (considering his age, salary and ability), not much chance of that I would think but JP can surprise. No point in moving him for a No. 3-5 pitcher.

That's what I'm thinking as well, but the Jays are certainly desperate for depth in their rotation. But with guys like Jeff Suppan still out there, who should be able to fill that role, I'm not sure what they're looking for..

What about the yanks trading Melky Cabrera for Pittsburgh's Mike Gonzalez. I hope they don't do it Cabrera one of ther best young players for some pitcher I have never heard of. If they do trade him he is worth well more then that.

no thanks

The Yankees seem to have decided to go with the biggest bunch of gimps/dinosaurs ever assembled.

I'm surprised they didn't try to sign Maddux or Glavine.

Big Unit (past it)
Petitte..rumours of Clemens joining him.
Mussina (still decent and durable)
Wang (he's good and young)
Pavano (porcelain boy)

I say they resurrect Kevin Brown off the scrap heap too.

They will still have a ridiculous batting order though.
