I remember Heroin caused quite stir in the press when the album was released. The band was criticised for advocating drug use, which Lou Reed denied...he claimed it was purely oservational rather than taking a stance either way.

There's a really good live version in the 'Between Thought and Expression' box set.

Awesome track alright! When you compare it to the likes of The Gift it just shows the range these genii (is that the plural of genius?) had.

Defo one of my favourite bands althoguh Floyd, Zeppy and The Doors would have something to say about it.

Yes, but it's also the plural of genie, so you run the risk of having people think you're some sort of maniac stalker who believes the Velvets are bottled spirits.

Thinking about it though, my fave VU track is probably Sister Ray or What Goes On.
