Darius Vassell’s agent has been quick to deny rumours that contract talks between the player and his club Aston Villa have broken down, after weekend speculation linked the England international with a move to Old Trafford.

Vassell has been a surprise package for the England national side, terrifying defences with his lightening-quick pace, and is one of the best strikers in England not to have been involved in European competition.

Ferguson has, in the past, suggested that he will not move for a striker as there are few players of real quality available who have not taken part in Europe this season.

Vassell would be one such player, but his agent says talks have not broken down, but instead are ongoing.

"The talks have not broken down at all. They are simply ongoing. There are no problems. These matters sometimes take a while to sort out."

is it only me that doesnt rate Julian Joachim..errr..i mean Vassell (easy mistake)

he's quick ill give him that but is that enough.
besides if we bought Vassell now, i doubt we'd chase Cissee in the summer

He's a decent player allright but I'm not sure he's that terrifying, nor that he's the type we need. Having said that his pace would be an asset. I'm not convinced he's consistent enough though and playing for Villa all this time can't have done him any favours in terms of developping a winner's mentality eh?

Yes I had figured that. My point was who is he and specifically who is he to decide that Vassel is "one such player" i.e. nobody important!

vassell is class imo. good touch and finisher. hes only what, 21? 22? anybody who saw the game against preston tonight with eyes would agree he has great ability dispite the opposition.

Vassell isnot of the class United need either now or potentially. UEFA Cup striker at best IMO.

Besides, he's too old, 31 now i read.
