'tis a silly place
he wanted £20k a week and Villa have refused (not too much for a player of his quality imo) and he is available for transfer at around £18m (far too much for a player of his quality imo). ;) This was all according to the NOTW, but if he is available on the cheap I wouldn't mind, considering we've missed out on a number of players and the Duff deal is going nowhere fast.

BTW: No quotes from the article, except this one from a 'Villa Park insider' regarding the contract talks : "The two parties are miles apart at the moment and there seems little chance of an early agreement." Vassel has two years left on his contract, when he will be 24.

He'd be a great signing for 10 million, though a bit too similar to Forlan. I'm a bit worried about injury prone he is too, but he's an exciting young forward with plenty of skill on the ball.

it was suggested here first! <a href="http://www.redcafe.info//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001087&p=" target="_blank">http://www.redcafe.info//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001087&p=</a>

honestly, i think hes a natural finisher, unlike diego though i think forlan will come good for us in midfield or attack.

18mil ... that's really just for the tabloid speculation's sake I guess ... no way he's gonna worth near to RVN ...

I would think 10mil is quite a lot ... but well I like him as a player though ... he's the triky type that could improve our team ..

Kenyon explicitly ruled out both Vassell and Ronaldo. The list is getting very short.

Actually the list is endless, doesn't have to be anyone we were linked with.

But i'm rather inclined to believe it will be a Lazio man.

Strange that Vassell is looking for an improved contract at Villa, doesn't get it, then gets linked with a move to United almost immediately.

What's so strange? We're nearing a situation in which Villa would want to sell, and United are on the look for a striker.

I'd be shocked if we weren't automatically linked with him! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I was actually being sarcastic, hence the rolling eyes... maybe it didn't work too well...

18 mill is too much but the problem United have always had is that there is a United price and then one for every other club which is about 5 mill less!

Its obvious United are chasing him, hence Taylors comments.....

Ive only realy seen him in england's warm up games leading to the world cup. He looked a classy finisher in those games. Should be interesting to see how this one develops.

RedNews

Graham Taylor

"Everything this club can do to keep him will be done. We're in negotiations with Darius and that needs to be kept in-house. I'm hoping we can continue in that vein and not on the back-pages of the newspapers. Everything this club can do to keep him will be done."

Sounds a lot like the way the Rio situation was going. ;)

He would be a good signing, though I'd prefere Jermaine DeFoe,(although he is a little greener) he is a crafty/creative little striker that would combine well with RVN and will develop further than Vassell IMO.

I'd prefer Defoe over Vassell any day of the week but I cant see us spending £10m on Vassell when we can get Crespo for £20m'ish.

How about, we don't have 20m and we're keen to add British talent?

How about we get a world class striker as opposed to Vassell. How many games do you think he'll get during the season? Now that he's a "big star" with England and wants Villa to recognise that by paying him more how do you think he'll get on at OT? He wont play regularly so he wont be in the reckoning for an England place or if he does play regularly then Ole loses out again.
