Belgian defender, playing for Marseille.

His name has been mentioned more than once in connection with Manchester United.

Haven't seen him play for Marseille.

But I have seen him play for Belgium.

Which makes me puzzled as to why on earth he could be considered good enough for United.

You're not the first tine. The feeling I get from people on this board is that he is decent, but nothing more. 7m has been quoted, and his name has been around for ages. What I find strange is that he's already 27, and until recently nobody knew much about him, why is this? I dont think we should sign him in place of an upcoming English defender who would be a better fit.

he was quoting that he only play with 70% in Marseille day in day out ... and he needs a "better league" to show his potential .. But shouldn't he use up his 100% on SAT against Croatia !!? And if that's his best and he can't help to prevent that 0-4 rout ... well well ... guess his 100% is not good enough still ... for us at least ;)

We have been talking about this for quite awhile. Ferguson has been keen on getting him and it looks like he is on his way to Old Trafford in the summer. It has been reported in a couple of places that he was 27, but the fact that the is younger is even better.

:D

He has been very good with Marseille this season.

He's very tall and physical and I've noticed it was very important for English people.

And he has even scored important goals this year.

Is he the stopper figure we need for next season? I cant believe we're going to shell out for another lanky ball-playing sweeper figure - we're already breeding a small army of these.

Is he a campbell or a ferdinand? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I know he's scored a few important goals for Marseille, and it does sound like he's doing really well there. All credit to him for that.

But he's been absolute pants for Belgium, e.g. on Saturday. Insecure, shaky, clumsy, sloppy, etc.

Hence why I think " <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" /> ".

Id rather have big Joos if we were to sign a Belgian defender.

Or Simons.

I'm not saying he's world class or whatever.

But why Van Buyten and not him??? Honest, I just don't get it.

Isnt Timmy Simons a defensive midfielder?

Normally.

But has played at the back for Club Bruges loads and done brilliantly, but domestically and in Europe.

Hence why he was in our defence vs Brazil and did great. Not only vs Brazil.

Was moved to midfield again on Saturday and look what happened.

He's back in the defence our next game.

Tine, what do you think of Aruna Dindane, the Ivory Coast midfielder playing with Anderlecht? United are said to have looked at him this season.

He was named "player of the month" in January.

You can't judge a player on one game, may be he wasn't on form. But judging by the score for sure he wasn't the only one.

His fighting spirit and attitude on the pitch are generally lauded. He has become very popular in Marseille.

But I have no problem with him staying in Marseille, Celine would surely agree with me if she was still around.

Not judging him on last week's game only Elfie, but his other games for Belgium too, and I'm not doubting his performances or achievments with Marseille, as I said, all credit/ respect to him.

Fact is, and I'm not to the only one puzzled by this, fans, coaches, etc. also are, he's like a totally different player for Belgium than for Marseille.

Tbh, can't tell, hardly ever watch games or summaries of Belgian league games.

I do remember the Club vs Anderlecht game were one of Club got sent off, and two from Anderlecht, erm if I remember correctly, and three more from Anderlecht should have been off. One of which Aruna, he was losing his head flying around like a madman, they had to take him off out of precaution before he got a red card.

Then there was the Cercle vs Anderlecht cup game. Cercle lost, but Anderlecht were shite. Aruna was their best man, remember being happy at the time he had to go off injured.
