Contrary to what you may have seen or heard at E3, Sega's Valkyria Chronicles is exclusive to the PlayStation 3, not the PSP. This RPG has been available in Japan since April 24, and Siliconera confirmed with Sega today that we'll be getting it here in the U.S. on November 11.
Yep, this is an exclusive RPG that isn't coming to the Xbox 360, unlike many of Square-Enix's next-gen projects. Furthermore, there is a good possibility that the extra downloadable content (already on the Japanese Store) will come to the U.S. as well, although Associate Producer Christopher Kaminski said it won't be on the disc. There will be no localization issues as they "translated it directly," and overall, it looks to be a very promising role-playing title for the PS3...and there have been so few, we can't help but be excited. Remember, this is one game where if your character dies, they're gone forever. Kaminski elaborates:
"The way that works is when a character falls you have three turns to get to them and you have to get to them before an enemy unit does. If you do that it calls in a medic and you can save your character and bring them out later in a couple of turns. But if you dont then are gone forever, in the case of main story characters that will end the game."
This reminds us of Final Fantasy Tactics, where you had three turns to resurrect a dead character before his soul turned to crystal or a treasure box, meaning that character was gone for good. Hopefully, come November 11, Valkyria Chronicles will turn out to be a must-have for fans of the genre, and not just for fans of Japanese-style artistry.
