US Masters 08

CARLIN: Then finally we come to golf. Do you ever watch golf on TV? It's like watching flies feck. I get more excited picking out socks. Golf could be fun if you could play alone. But it's these genetic defectives that you have to hang around with that makes it such a boring pastime. Think of the brains that it takes to play golf. Hitting a ball with crooked stick, and then walking after it. And then hitting it again. I say pick it up, you are lucky found it. Put it in your pocket and go home, will you!

Tiger is within easy striking distance, had a steady opening round you would say.

On a more positive note, there are three Englishmen up there on the leaderboard at the minute, Justin Rose joint first though he has been there before but then faded away. Westwood looks in good form and did well to make par in such poor light on the 18th.

If i had to pick one of the above to be in contention come Sunday, i'd probably go with Westwood.

I already have a thread on this in the other sport forum, as this is another sport

Tiger just called himself a dumbass(audible on tv) after shanking a drive

Be of small comfort to him right now, but he certainly wasn't a dumb ass with that shot into the 18th last night.

Interesting times as goes today's play. :)

They are all falling apart. Immelman is hanging on. Woods with 2 birdies in a row... If he can get 3 more he won't be far off.... Only 5 off the lead

This is old news as it became evident fairly early on in proceedings with Casey's collapse, but the wider issue of English/ golfers forever not being able to see out a final day challenge on a major cannot be avoided.

Oh sure, they'll be there on the first two days and maybe one or even two hanging on during the weekend, however it seems to be only a matter of time before they fade away.

They have the talent, the game, but mentally you have to wonder at the minute.

Westwood would have won the tournament if he could putt a ball. From tee to green he is magnificent.

Can't see Immelman dropping 3 in 2. But you never know... Van De Velde...

He lives in London, so i think we can claim him. :)

The amazing four rounds of golf aside it is realy quite the story when you take into account Immelman's health concerns in recent times.

Gary Player apparently rung him yesterday night (Saturday) and told him that he was going to see it home.

Well done to him!

Tiger will go into the US Open as favourite and he'll fancy his chances, having won the Buick Invitational every year since he could walk probably.
