Mundo Deportivo is reporting that United scouts have been watching Aaron Caricol and David Lopez and that Jose is very interested in the duo.

Lopez is 27 and is a versatile defensive player, operating at centre-back. He can also play as a defensive midfielder. The report says he has a 34 million pounds release clause.

Caricol operates primarily as a left-back, is 19 years old and has a 25 million pounds release clause.

Mundo Deportivo is a well known source of sports news in Catalonia.

Interesting prospects those two lads. If most of the reports out there are to be believed, Jose is certainly not just looking at strengthening the attack and midfield, but he seems determined to add quality to the defence.

What do you make of the two Espanyol defenders as options?

If Jose wants Caricol, it means he either prefers him to Benjamin Mendy (assuming reports about interest in Mendy are true) or he can't get Mendy. If he wants Lopez, then one of our center backs will likely be on the way out.

I am Spanish and this is bullshit.
Can't see Mourinho attempting to buy these players.
Why on earth should we buy them? We don't need them and they are not class enough for us.

Cheers..

Would be odd to go for Caricol given this is his breakout season. Plenty of young left backs across Europe to go for. I imagine we're just keeping an eye on him like all scouts should. Same for Roca too.

Don't know anything about Lopez.

Not even at half mast for these 2. Muppet senses aren't tingling.

Aaron is an under 21 Spanish international, he is certainly very good for his age with a bright future ahead and a number of reports say Real Madrid has been scouting him as a left back option.

Lopez's versatility and hints at why Jose may be keen.

The 19 yo LB I wouldn't be against. No enthusiasm for this Lopez bloke though.

We probably scouted them alright.. whether we actually want them is a different matter.

Aaron why not, decent full backs are rare these days but David Lopez who couldn't even cut it at Napoli? Don't think so.

That's good. We desperately need a new left back this summer.

True but as a starter/back up is yet to be defined depending on how Shaw finishes the season. At least we are out there looking even if its with an eye on future transfers. That being said, with the amount of times you see a report saying "Utd scouts watched whoever'' how do the press know? Do we have the most recognizable scouts in football or are clubs so open with the press with who is watching their matches?

Whatever happened to the days where Scouts would be in anoraks/trilby hats and fake moustaches in disguise so a team didn't know they were being scouted? Modern football tsk............. ;)

If there is anyone in the world who can build a good defence it's Jose. I'll trust him with this one.

I think Jose has already decided that he wants to sign a new left-back, regardless of what happens with Show in the next few weeks.

It'd be the correct decision as well. It seems like Shaw's future at the club is still uncertain and the most he could hope for between now and the end of the season is convincing Jose to keep him at the club.

We're being heavily linked with Benjamin Mendy and the move seems inevitable to be honest. He's just the type of full-back that Jose likes - strong, athletic, dynamic and a very good crosser of the ball.

Shaw's issues have made us play Rojo, Darmian and Blind on the left and that's one of the many reasons why we've been shite in attack.
