Excellent performance! We have lost so many important players but other players make it up for them. It send out a signal that United never die, so anyone of Scousers or Gooners should be afraid that they cannot afford any smallest mistake! Two players today were extremely excellent. Blanc, what a defender! Outclass every other defenders in the pitch including his French teammate Desailly. Now I hope Fergie can persuade him to stay. It is because if he really quit, it's definitely a big lose for us, as we need to spend over 20m+ to get a player who is anywhere near as good as him! Another excellent player is Scholes, totally commanding the midfield, absolutely amazing goal, and performing dozen of good tackle and good long pass throughout the game.

Players rating:
Barthez 8
G.Nevlle 7
Blanc 9
Silvestre 8
Scholes 9
Butt 7
Giggs 8
Fortune 6
Ole 8
RVN 8
P.Neville 6

I'm glad to hear that, after all the shit he got last autumn (I'm not talking about you). It shows you don't have have to judge a player on one or two months, particularly when he's recognized as one of the best defenders in football history. Shame doesn't play anymore for the French team, he would have kept his place in the first team. Hope his absence won't make the difference...

Just as what Giggs said, Blanc still has excellent class. The World Cup may be too much burden for him, so he is right to quit the French team. But hope he can stay with us and help us play in important matches in next season.

Nicky Butt was the Sky TV player of the match. Our defence always plays better when Nicky's in front of them, but it never seems to detract from our abilty to score goals.

Good though Nicky was, personally I thought Scholes had the greater impact. Quite apart from that crucial goal, his tackling today was the best I have ever seen from him.

After a dodgy first 10 minutes, Blanc & Brown settled down well, which was the best news of all.

Anyone know what's up with Fortune ? I don't like to see Phil Neville in midfield.

Fab - 9
Gaz - 8
Larry - 9.5
Wes - 8
Micky - 8
Butt - 8
Scholesy - 9.5
Fortune - 7.5
Giggsy - 8.5
Ole - 8.5
Ruud - 8
Phizza - 7.5

I think Veron will return in next match, so no need to worry about that. ;)

Fortune's a good hardworking left side alternative. He's starting to show some good touches and I'd like him around for the last few games.

You can see how much being in the team means to him.

You're the one who wanted defenders ! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

In truth we would be wise to buy one defender (two if Larry retires).

For me, I thought Silvestre was the best of the bunch. Didn't put a foot wrong the whole game (even Blanc made a careless pass in the second half). Gronkjaer could hardly find a way past him.

and he has been doing the business for the past 6 games.

A very strong case for him to pick that left-back spot as his own permanently.

For me, Silvestre will occupy that spot for us for the next 6-8 years, at which point there will still be those who say he isn't United class - but that's ok since he'll be retired by then. ;)

At least you're not thinking too far ahead...

;)

Both Silvestre and Blanc can claim to be MOM. They were both outstanding, with Scholes and Butt close behind. What a strike by Scholes, I just loved it. The movement for the second and third goals was also exquisite.

Excellent performance across the whole back line...i don't think I've seen Silvestre in particular play better than today..he was totally on top of his game.

So... I heard on Sky that Scholes said it went straight in, Petit (??) said it hit him and so says Butt aswell...

So... the conclusion must be that it hit both Butt and Petit (??)... :)

But anyway it was a beautiful strike!!! :D :D

MOM Scholes. He's had a number of great games lately. Today he was everywhere. When in form he's got such great ballance on the ball.

He did. But nearly gave us heart failure towards the end. Could have been a cracking goal.....

A marvellously disguised back pass. <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

But the word 'Davo" did flash briefly across my mind at that moment...

I watched the game and it was as good a performance United have put in for a while. We scored three excellently taken goals and we deserved our win. Great result. Larry, Fab and the defence played magnificently, while the 3 in midfield, three in attack worked well.

We kicked ass and got revenge! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

Or it might have hit Petit's butt ;)
But what a wonderful strike!

Hope it is 1 CB + 1 RB (Finnan?)

Until your dream move of Mexes joining us next summer eh?

Here's mine
Fab 8 - didn't have too many saves to make, but handled the corners well
Silvestre 8 - Solid, but not as much of an attacking threat as he usually is but nice to see him concentrate on his defending
Wes 8 - Solid and composed, looked untroubled against the second best front pair
Blanc 9 - Total class, amazing reading of the game, crucial tackles and commanded the defense
Gary 7 - Quiet game but untroubled
Fortune 6 - injury prevented him from getting into the game
Giggs 9 - Sublime vision, crucial role in all 3 goals and is the creative spark that defines our team. MOM
Scholes 9 - Bossed the midfield and made Petit and Lampard look crap (although maybe that is not hard to do). He was the playmaker today and showed he can do that job perfectly.
Butt 8 - Best thing I can say about him is that we didn't miss Keano. And we didn't concede any goals. Great defensive midfield display.
Ole 8 - Worked hard in an out of position role, and got his just reward for it. 99 goals, let Wednesday bring the 100, 101 and 102 goals.
Ruud 8 - Looked sharp and coming back to his best, despite not scoring from a one on one, in true Ruud style he makes up for it by brilliant work on the left to create a goal, and converts a chance to get a very well earned goal. Very pleasing to see both our strikers score in the game before the CL semi final. (Unlike Bayer who lost)
Phil 7 - did alright, nothing negative, but nothing positive either really. But he ain't a midfielder.
Forlan - only came on for a couple of minutes.
