Radek Vitek – Marc Jurado, Rhys Bennett, Tyler Fredrickson, Björn Hardley – Kobbie Mainoo, Zidane Iqbal – Omari Forson, Dan Gore, Alejandro Garnacho – Charlie McNeill

0-0 after 25 minutes - Vitek with a 2-3 great saves for us - Garnacho with our best chance

And - need to add that Ethan Laird has scored for QPR :)

Gore also had some great moments in the game, and Iqbal was class. Forson and Jurado combined very well on the right.

Will McNeil be around the first team this season, since we look like being short in the striking department.

Just to show what a strong result this was from our young side :

Wimbledon - Villa 2-1
Burton - Leicester 4-2
Doncaster - Newcastle 0-0
Forest Green - Southampton 3-1
Mansfield - Man City 3-2
Salford - Liverpool 2-1
Wycombe - Tottenham 0-0
Morecambe - Everton 3-3

A lot of P.L teams struggled

Arsenal, West Ham, Palace and Wolves won their games

A wins a win and Mainoo a real talent. Lets just remember though that this was Csrlisles reserve side. Only one player started from the side that plays in the league. Given that team of ours has cost a good few millions our kids beating a team of squad players who havent played in weeks cant be a huge surprise.

Whilst they might not have been Carlisle United's first choice X1...every one of their starting eleven has first team experience with a combined total of 831 first team games. In addition, all but three of the starting eleven have played in quite a few of Carlisle's first team games this season. So the 'haven't played in weeks' is not accurate at all. It was a very experienced team. Even Carlisle's three subs had a combined total of 443 first team games behind them.

We had two players starting with first team experience with a combined total of 9 games...most of which were cameos in the final few minutes of games.

I'm not sure that United winning was such a forgone conclusion...regardless of what fees we might have paid. We got those young players based on potential and we all know that most won't make it in the top flight. So that result, with many of players in their first season at U/21 was pretty good in my opinion.

I think the EFL Trophy competition is exactly the type of experience our youngsters needed. Charlie McNeill would have learned a lot coming against Omari Patrick who has played over 150 league games and the likes of Gore and Mainoo the same with someone like Jamie Devitt who is a very experienced professional with over 350 games under his belt.

Tbf we should have won it more comfortably. We were pretty wasteful in the game. Garnacho will be called for his head knowing our fanbase if he’s that wasteful on actual games.

A lot of good football being played though and that’s the most important thing.
