Guess this is a good topic to talk about when we're days away from the next U18s/U21s game.

PSV,CSKA and Wolfsburg is a tough group of good academies. The players must be born in and after 1/1/1997 although we can field up to 3 U20s players (born in or after 1/1/1996).

Not a board pool of overage players to choose from though, with Andreas Pereira (probably won't feature),Joel Pereira,Matt Willock,Joe Riley,Devonte Redmond,Scott McTominay and Oliver Rathbone being the options.

We could potentially field a team of:
Henderson
Reid - Tuanzebe - Williams - Borthwick-Jackson
Fosu-Mensah - Pereira/Redmond
Willock - Gribbin - Mitchell
Rashford

Which is more or less our first choice U18s XI last season bar Willock/Pereira.

Personally can't see us doing too well with the obvious hole in the striking option.

Any knowledge about the academies of the three clubs, mate?
Players to watch out?

Bergwijn should be the key player from PSV if he plays.Already made first team debut, ex-Ajax youngster. They have some other Dutch youth international such as Sam Lammers or Kenneth Paal.Jurich Carolina is called up to the latest Holland U19s squad one year up his age group (similar to Fosu-Mensah) so he seems highly-rated.Also have United trialist Lassana Faye (a left back) who I hope will sign for us soon just to weaken their side ;)

Don't know much about CSKA or Wolfsburg.

He was signed from Fulham last season (they released him because he was something like 4th choice on the wing). Was a winger but we converted him into a striker.

Looks like the first match (away at PSV) won't be televised but there'll be extended highlight floating around on MUTV.

Isn't it the same last time round?Away matches weren't televised.
Looking at the match threads it looks like all were televised except the Sociedad away match. I guess maybe it depends if the home club has the equipment set up to do it, was hoping with the increased popularity of youth football they might put a bit more effort into broadcasting it

Won't it be televised from the Dutch side ? Or who has the rights ?

IIRC last time away matches were shown on MUTV though for the shakthar game it was feed arranged by the hosts only.

MUTV can't even be bothered to show away games at U18 level these days (used to show plenty of them) so not getting my hopes up.

this isnt on MUTV!? They can just feck off, whats the point of the club tv if they dont show youth games, specially CL....

Looking at the potential line-up looks like we have a small injury crisis in the winger position.Willock,Mitchell,Dearnley,Makela (and Buffonge) all didn't feature for the U21s/U18s in their last games.Going by the current "available" players would not be surprised if the line-up is:
Henderson
Reid - Tuanzebe - Williams - CBJ
Fosu-Mensah - McTominay
Doughty - Gribbin - Redmond
Rashford

Quite a makeshift in the front 6 if true.

Obviously we can still feature a more balanced XI but with much younger players:

Henderson
Reid - Tuanzebe - Williams - CBJ
Fosu-Mensah - Redmond
Rashford - Gribbin - Kenyon
Roberts

According to a PSV forum, PSV will feature a strongest squad possible with both Kenneth Paal and Steven Bergwijn in the squad.

For those who didn't know about them:

shame Angel isnt registered, he maybe is young but he is class above almost everyone in our squad...

The match seems to be live on PSV TV (if it's really a live football TV).Anyone Dutch poster here who has that channel?

18-man squad: Dorrington,Henderson,Jackson,Reid,Dunne,Sang,Scott,Warren,Williams;Boonen,Gribbin,Mensah,Kenyon,Redmond,Whelan;Diedrick-Roberts,Doughty,Rashford.

Looks like Kehinde and Tuanzebe missed out (injury?).

It's too much of a leap for him. He only just turned 15.

i know but he is soo good, dont think he would struggle, he is to smart for that level....only watched highlights of the two U18 games where he played and he was already taking the piss, every touch and decision was perfect. Looks very similar to Ravel and he started playing at that age.

Gomes is too young to be registered as per UEFA rules only IIRC for this competition.

You can't register a player that born after 31-12-1999 for this year's UEFA Youth League.

United XI: Henderson; Reid, Warren, Williams, Borthwick-Jackson; Fosu-Mensah, Redmond; Whelan, Gribbin, Doughty; Rashford.

PSV XI: Van Osch, Abels, Peijnenburg, Carolina, Rommens, Paal, Lundqvist, Gudmundsson, Berden, Lammers, Bergwijn

didnt know that you could be to young for the competition...
