Being Irish and big fan of penalty shoot outs :( a thought crossed my mind.........

Its many a year since United have been involved in a penalty shoot out. I have a vague recollection of a very young Ryan Giggs missing one against Southampton in the League Cup one year. But the reality is it is increasingly likely that United will be in a shoot out sometime soon. Either the Champions League or FA cup. So who would our five takers be and how would they do? My five are......

Ruud
Ruud
Ruud
Ruud
and...
Ruud

Another topic that comes up every two months :)

Our last shoot out was the 1997 Charity Shield... Don't remember everyone who took a penalty, but we scored 4 out of 4 and won it. Keano and Butt were among the scorers...

Sorry bout that Amir, showing my age now ;)
I forgot about the Charity Shield, well remembered. I reckon old Nicky Butt is a good kicker. My real five would be Ruud, Nicky, Bex, Ole and maybe Scholes. But not in that order!

Ruud and Becks definately.

Scholes? Maybe, but he has missed a few already...

Blanc if he's still here.

Seems hard to tell as I haven't seen many players taking a penalty.

It depends of course a lot on who has the better nerves (this would indicate Keano to take 1 of 5)
and who has performed better in the match in question.

Ruud
Becks
Scholes
Veron
Keane

Becks
Ruud
Giggs
Scholes
Keano

I think you need your best shooters and the confident ones at the first and fifth shootout, and I can see Roy scoring the last and win the game.

This might be totally wrong but I believe it has something to do with the brain. You have one brain half with music and art etc. and the other with logic etc.

Anyway, the left-footed ones might have the art etc. half as the dominating half and would therefore be more adventurous (sp?) by nature.

Why do you think that this is true?
It's bullshit, everyone with football in his right leg, left leg, and both leg can't take penelties and can do it good.

So that would explain Barthez's desire to make these artistic saves and runs out of the box and so on . . .

;)

Must be even harder when you have two left feet ;)

I remember Ole saying something like once he took a penalty he slipped and missed. ;)

If Irwin were staying, he'd be in my 5. But he's not, so here are my choices:

Ruud
Becks
Seba
Scholes (Not sure of him actually, saw him miss a couple)
Keano

If Blanc stays, then him instead of Scholes.

So if you have two left feet...What type of brain do you have???........ ;)

Defintely no logic ....????
