United in for van Buyten??

i read this article from planet football about Peter Taylor as a possible number 2 to Fergie. Article then followed saying Fergie is off to France Marseille to watch a match against PSG. Me thinks the only reason is for scouting reasons, and at the mo Marseille has a very highly rated Belgium defender called van Buyten. i read hes also being awtched by Juve and a few other top clubs, he plays right back aswell... :rolleyes:

the rumor mill is cranked up! - one site reports OM paid 7.7 another doubles the figure. gee , could one of them be wrong. onefootball and 365 have it posted up as well. ah the summer fun in april!
 
Frankly,
You wont come across a transfer that was more insane then Van Buyten's to Marseille. No-one knows how much was paid - if anything.
Let me explain how it worked: the Chairman (and owner) of Olympique de Marseille is Robert-Louis Dreyfus (better known as owner of the ADIDAS-concern). However, he is also the owner of Standard de LIege (the Belgian club from which Van Buyten made his transfer to OM)
The fact is that Standard made massive losses (spending almost 140% of their revenue), so he had to balance the books, which he did by "transferring" Daniel Van Buyten to Marseille. The transfer was rumoured to be worth 9 million pounds at the time (which everyone thought was rediculous for an average player like DVB), however, now it seems the sum was about 7.7m - with Standard getting 50% any gains on a next transfer...

The whole Marseille-Standard relationship is one big financial mess (there is an investigation at the moment into how OM is being run)...

Personally, I would rate Van Buyten at £2m maximum. And frankly, if you buy him and play him you can forget about winning anything next year.

He scored the winning goal last nite and dent Marseille's title hope ... Didn't have the chance to watch the game ... anybody did ? ... SAF was suppose to be at the game I read ...

Until as usual, they start fecking up under pressure.

And to be fair to the players there, think the board 'n all those kinda people, are the biggest cnuts around there, it's beyond believe how they treat people (players, staff, other people, etc.).
