With games coming up against Liverpool and Arsenal we don't have long to wait to see whether or not we are going to compete with the best domestically. Whilst not necessarily conclusive, poor results against those two, once again, will not only be bad for morale but will show that the PL is probably not a realistic goal this season and that my theory about the ECL is correct. Personally, I think we can beat both those teams provided we have most of our squad available, that Fergie can get the tactics right .

I want to agree with you here, but it's a little difficult as we have seen that even when we had our best squad available we couldn't take on these two teams in the past 2 seasons. Maybe we were missing one or two key players, but good teams have to be able to do well without key players. Arsenal seems to have been on an impossible run even without Pires... it sends shivers down my spines when i think that they're tearing up the Premiership without Pires. Pires is coming back and the team could get even stronger...
While for us, Rio, Keane and RVN are coming back - but we have seen how we performed with them in the team, and it's not so good to be honest.. so i guess you're right, we'll have to see how we perform against these two over the next month before making further judgements.
and that we have the desire to once again assert our authority over our main rivals

We have players with the desire no doubt. We hear the likes of Giggs, Neville, Beckham, Scholes, Ole come out everyday saying we're getting there and that we can still win it all. It assures us fans there's still hope. So i very much doubt that the problems are with our players not wanting to win. It's more of the fact that we're not using the right tactics to break oppositions up.
