Since it appears there are fans who believe we are not doing fine and there are those who think we are doing fine, i would like to know which group you belong in:

1. United can win the league & the European Cup even with the current situation unchanged.

2. We will only win the European Cup or the League only if something is done with the current situation.

3. you are biased towards both sides and are unsure of your own opinions.

I think you need to define - something!

We could win A Trophy with the current squad.

But in order to win the EPL or CL I think we need an addition or 2 to the bench.

ok, i have defined it more specifically now. so please cast your vote of confidence!

If you look at the Our Best Team thread we can put out a fantastic team when everyone is fit and available. The problem is it will not always be possible. Players are injured, suspended or given a rest. Just about everybody knew at the beginning of the season that we needed a centre back, an additional full back, a striker and maybe a winger as well, as back up for Giggs. The problem was Kenyon blew the whistle after the first requirement had been met. Now, with just about everyone under contract or cup tied, Fergie is given the go ahead to buy a striker in January. It seems his choice will be very limited. The basic problem remains that the squad is not strong enough to compete on all fronts, which has led me to the conclusion that Fergie is only interested in the ECL this season although he would never admit it of course. With games coming up against Liverpool and Arsenal we don't have long to wait to see whether or not we are going to compete with the best domestically. Whilst not necessarily conclusive, poor results against those two, once again, will not only be bad for morale but will show that the PL is probably not a realistic goal this season and that my theory about the ECL is correct. Personally, I think we can beat both those teams provided we have most of our squad available, that Fergie can get the tactics right and that we have the desire to once again assert our authority over our main rivals.

I absolutely agree with you on this. I think SAF maye forced to give up EPL because of his limitations. And also for his insistence on going forward with 4-4-1-1. It doesn't seem suitable in the EPL, but if he's right that we need this formation for the ECL then the only place we can perfect this formation is in the league.

I want to agree with you here, but it's a little difficult as we have seen that even when we had our best squad available we couldn't take on these two teams in the past 2 seasons. Maybe we were missing one or two key players, but good teams have to be able to do well without key players. Arsenal seems to have been on an impossible run even without Pires... it sends shivers down my spines when i think that they're tearing up the Premiership without Pires. Pires is coming back and the team could get even stronger...

While for us, Rio, Keane and RVN are coming back - but we have seen how we performed with them in the team, and it's not so good to be honest.. so i guess you're right, we'll have to see how we perform against these two over the next month before making further judgements.

and that we have the desire to once again assert our authority over our main rivals

We have players with the desire no doubt. We hear the likes of Giggs, Neville, Beckham, Scholes, Ole come out everyday saying we're getting there and that we can still win it all. It assures us fans there's still hope. So i very much doubt that the problems are with our players not wanting to win. It's more of the fact that we're not using the right tactics to break oppositions up.

We are currently 4th in the league
Through to the next phase of the champions league.
Still in the FA and League cup
currently without the backbone of the team.(Rio, Roy and Ruud)
Yeah, we aint doin very well are we?

Why? Will you respond or not respond to people according to their answers?

you can't really look at it like that roxyfella..

we have on a very good run since we missed keane - we haven't lost a single game since we lost to Bolton and Leeds, are you also going to tell me we're much better off without Keane? Because when he was around we weren't playing very well..

Truth is we have struggled throughout the season in a lot of games. Veron substituted more than often, swapping tactics more than often, moving players out of their positions more than often.. is that a sign of a good going team? Be serious will you?

hahaha.. no.. it's mainly out of curiousity.. i guess not a lot of people will respond to this thread because no one wants their comments to be backfired later..

Lets face it nobody really knows how good the current United side could be. They have never played together, we've had so many injuries. First it was Rio, Becks and Gaz, then Keane and Scholes and now Ruud.
With any luck we will be able to see what the fully fit United side can do before too long.

As for what we can win, i want to know why so many people seem to assume that the Premiership and the Champions League is an, either or, option.
I honestly think our squad is a strong as it was in 1999, when fully fit. The only exception is a striker. But with the formation we play at the moment 4 strikers is not essential.

it's not an option really.. but with the way things are going i think a lot of people now don't believe that with 4-4-1-1 we can take both trophies and wish that atleast we'd take one:

1. Fergie seems to be using EPL as a practice ground for 4-4-1-1 to be used in ECL.

2. He seems to neglect that we can easily use 4-4-2 to easily outclass opponents like Fulham.

3. He has said that he would like to win the ECL one more time. He hasn't said anything about being EPL champions... (maybe i missed the one particular news where he said this, please verify if i'm wrong)

so there.. i think this about covers it up..

I see where your coming from. Play 4-4-2 and all will fall before us, glad it so simple.
If you seriously believe that Sir Alex does care about the Premiership then you need help. His priority may be Europe but that doesn't mean to say he doesn't want to win every match they play

so you are meaning to tell me that Fergie fills reserves side in the Worthless Cup in hopes of being champions?

Or you are meaning to tell me that when United opted to stay away from the FA Cup the season after '99, that he wanted to win it eventhough he didn't want to play in it?

and i'm not sayin he doesn't want the EPL. i said i think he's using EPL as practice ground because he's ignoring the fact that with 4-4-2 we can exploit english teams better. we have done this in many other games we played with 4-4-2.. didn't all teams fall before us when we played 4-4-2 throughout the '99 season?

The fact that we lost the most games ever in EPL last season because 4-4-1-1 was introduced doesn't strike you as an error in judgement?

And he did say that 4-4-1-1 is designed for ECL.. he never said it would make us stronger in EPL.. yet he's using it in the EPL.. which means.... he's using the EPL games as practice grounds..

now do you see where i'm coming from?
