Fergie eyes up 'new Chicharito'

Sir Alex Ferguson is trying to line up a deal to bring the new Chicharito to Manchester United.

Mexican Alan Pulido, a 20-year-old who plays for Tigres in his homeland, is seen as the country’s next Javier Hernandez.

He has already played for Mexico's Under-20s and is tipped to be a key man in the senior squad by the time of the next World Cup.

Pulido is fast, a good dribbler and strong in the air - qualities that some observers feel make him a better prospect than Hernandez, who has been a huge hit at Old Trafford since joining in 2010.

Hernandez, known as the Little Pea, is believed to have discussed Pulido with Ferguson.

Pulidoscored three goals in last year’s FIFA Under-20s Championship and was then called up to the seniors for the Copa America.

United were able to pick up Hernandez relatively cheaply from Chivas Guadalajara and it is believed Pulido could move for around £4million.

I'd say that's a little unfair, he displaced our top scorer last season from the team and it's only injuries that's stopped him from having a good crack at a regular starting birth this season

Exactly, the only reason we would sign him is if he is a good player, nothing to do with his nationality or media comparisons to Hernandez. Unfortunately every Mexican now will be compared. Having Chicharito here is bound to help us secure the top Mexican talents as he is the national golden boy at the moment which could work to our advantage.

It sells papers. The layman is not going to be too concerned with Manchester United signing obscure local Mexican player. The media always need to sensationalize everything. Just like how we have a "deal in place" for Gaitan, only for them to produce a report with no quotes whatsoever.

Sometimes its also a case of bridging the dots and lazy journalism. I mean how the hell an English journalist would know what the type of player Pullido is? He'll probably check youtube/stats and conclude that he's fast and quite a finisher. That makes him the 'new Hernandez'
