United After Duff

Radio reports in Ireland have stated that United have opened talks with Blackburn to sign Duff

I hope its true ;) ;)

have it from fairly reliable source that this is at an advanced state already. Apparently Duff is a huge fan also, as are his family. Also the negotiations are taking place here in dublin

Yep, I heard it too (Today FM). Aparently, Soumess is still rather interested in Dwight Yorke and may consider a player plus cash deal. Duff is aparently valued at £15m. Surely within the budget plus offloading Yorke, it must be tempting for SAF.

What a waste of money, they could sign a quality defender for 15mil, they don't exactly need another midfielder/striker do they.

We do actually. Preferably one who is pacey and can play on both wings and off the main striker.

Basically, he'd be perfect if we can get our hands on him...

We need somone with pace who can play left wing (when Giggsys hamstring goes again) and also down the middle, we dont frighten teams with our speed up front but he would certainly cause problems for any opposition.

Good signing if it happens - we desperately need better cover than we currently have for Giggs and Beckham on the flanks.

Not only this, but Fergie played Giggs a lot down the middle towards the end of the season, with Duff in the team he could very easliy alternate between the two. But most importantly, I believe United lost the title last year because Arsenal had better quality in depth than United had, controversial as it may sound, but while we were calling up Ronnie Wallwork, Phil Neville, Luke Chadwick. Arsenal were calling on Freddie Ljundberg, Nwankwo Kanu, Ray Parlour. We could really do with more quality in reserve.

Agree with you on strength in depth. I sincerely hope that Giggs isn't used up the middle this season though. Two strikers up front seemed to serve us better than the Giggs behing RVN ploy.

Duff would be an excellent signing, great player who can play in several positions. What more could we ask for?
Ideally id like to see him on the left wing when Giggs is absent or behind the striker if we adopt that approach again.
With him and Giggs able to play up front & Fortune also available on the left maybe they'll be our "4th" striker.

You probably won't agree with me on this, but if we sign Duff I think it will be as a replacement for Giggs, rather than backup. I think he will be used in a swap with Juventus for Thuram.

Thats great we get rid of giggs who was rubbish last season and seems to have lost a lot of his form of old.

Great news all together sign duff get rid of giggs and get a good CB

;)

Yes, I don't believe ;)
Believe or not, I think among all the Fergie fledglings Fergie likes Giggs the most. Certainly Giggs didn't have his best year last season, but he also didn't play so badly that Fergie would sell him.

Duff would be an excellent signing....he's young, talented, quick, versitile and has a good attitude. I just hope that if we sign him it doesn't limit us in signing player/s where we really need them though - at the back.

Could be true... Giggs, like Owen, becomes half the player they are when they lose their pace. Let's face it, Fergie ain't the most sentimental of pple and Giggs is not getting any younger. May be a good deal to do.

Too True BHManUNut...

We could do with more quality in reserve

But i dont think its a question of reserves, it quality in the squad. I hardly think Freddie L is a reserve player.

Duff is a great player. Has come on leaps and bounds in the past season due to fewer injury problems. :D

His transfer value will only go down now, as will his performances and appearances, due to injury and aging.

Fair enough, it's a play on words here. However, Freddie Ljundbgerg was very much a back-up player/reserve (in the same way that Duff would probably be if he signed for United) before Pires got injured.

Selling Giggs and bringing Duff will do very little for the team I'm afraid. Yeah, it sounds like a good long-term solution (for which I'm all against, not this way!), but it won't solve our current problems. We don't need a replacement for Giggs, who is still capable of the most magical moments in european football, but we need back up, for him and other positions.

1. Giggs will be a red for life :p
2. He would never be in a swap deal to get us Thuram. Only MAYBE Delpiero :)
3. Duuf would be the wing mans backup and Probably Ruud's partner if Fergie chases no one else to fill THAT void.

3. Giigs to JUve? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I'll believe it when I see it! Sounds like the usual fiction to me.....

I just heard that report myself... how come todayFM are the only ones who know about this?! well, i'm off to pray that it's all true.. i have my padre pio medal at my side.

Well hes never let me down before ;)

Will be a superb signing IMO ... this guy is so talented and skillful I thik he's one of the most fearsome winder in EPL currently ...

He will add good depths in our current squad on the upper 1/3 of the field ... he's not really a midfielder so I don think he'll choke up our midfield further ... in fact I think he will give us a lot more options especially on European nite ...

Duff would be a superb signing imo.

So would Finnan - any chance of that?

I,ve been waiting for this news for weeks. Hope to God its true. He would be an excellent signing ( Yorkie plus 10 mill should do the trick)

Oirish bollox then. I see.

I know there is talk about Ronaldo, etc. and who knows...but assuming we do bring in an attacking player I hope its Duff, he fills two basic requirements-

cover for Giggs
link up for RVN

Aside from his skill and pace, his workrate and attitude are perfect. And the chance to unload that waster Disco with the same stroke is too good to miss.

Duff can also play deep and attack from midfeild. Think of the amount of free's Bex would be taking. he'd have to share his goal bonus money me thinks!

A few dipper sites say both us and them have had £25m bids accepted by B'burn!!!

A 'source' said it's up to DD to decide where he wants to go when he gets back from his hols.

So do the press... £25m? Better get that calculator out Marching.... ;)

I would imagine in both cases its cash plus players. Barmby, Traore, Diomede perhaps...

lol @ the thought of any club taking diomede off of liverpool's books...
