add/subtract based on Prem/FA Cup/CL fixture etc.

--------------------- Barthez --------------------
--------------------- (RC) ----------------------

--- G.Nev ------- Rio ------ Blanc --- Silvestre
--- (PN) --------(WB) ------ (JOS) ---- (???)

--- Beckham --- Keane --- Scholes ---- Giggs
---(DD or LC)-- (Butt)---(DD or MS)--(DD or QF)

--------- Van Nistelrooy ----- Ronaldo ---------
----------- (Solskjaer) ------ (Diego) ---------

Looks great, Raoul, would be grand if we could get a team like that in place for next season. Doubt Ron is coming to be honest. I think his WC form has made Inter think again about selling him.

BTW: I do think Ole deserves a chance to be #1 partner for Ruud. If we are going to shell out big bucks for a striker, it should be Montella. Also Seba should also be given more time to prove himself imo. Perhaps he may not be first-choice, but he should earn a spot in the team. Hopefully Brown / O'Shea can gradually slip in to the side in place of Blanc as the season goes on and the games come think and fast.

Ronaldo will be cheaper than Montella and Ron is younger and a better player when he is in good form.Besides Nike will maybe finance Ronaldo for shirt sales.

Ronaldo cheaper than Montella ? Don't count on it. <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" />

Well I'm sure Ronaldo would be a very welcome addition to the squad - for Luke Chadwick at least.

Anyone else to go with Ferdinand, Duff and Ronaldo?

How about Vieira? And Pires..and Henry..

And maybe Figo as back up to Chadwick

;)

And change our name to Nations United at the same time.

Oh well, I can play this game.

Barthez
Neville
Rio
O'Shea
Silvestre
Giggs/Duff
Keane
Scholes/Butt
Beckham
Ole
Ruud

Having a "world-class" player, or several, in the team isn't enough.

It isn't whether a player is "world-class" but whether he's a team player.

Eleven supporters who can play good football, and who can function as a team. Suit me.

The Realistic squad:

Keepers:
Barthez
Caroll
Steele

Fullbacks:
Gary Neville
Phil Neville
Silvestre
Wes Brown

Center Backs:
Blanc
Mexes
Rio
O'shea
Wingers:
Beckham
Giggs
Viana
Chadwick
Djordjic
Central mudfielders:
Butt
Keane
Scholes
Veron
Stewart

Strikers:
Ruud Van Nistelrooy
Duff
Solksjaer
Forlan
Portillio

I have to agree with Davo for once... I said it in the other thread before and I'll say it again... even the initially sane and down to earth people are starting to lose their minds... kind of funny that most of these people are the ones who bashed Kemo for dreaming but are now slowly transforming into another Kemo, although not nearly as ridiculous of course.

Huiting:
Rivaldo
Rustu
Nesta
Unlikely to happen!

Kevin? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

That would be great! :D :D :D

Can't see it happen though but let's dream...

(I'm still not sure if we should sell Veron - as I don't know his true feelings (abt Lazio, England etc.) - I'm sure Fergie will make the right call.)

The final decision will be up to Seba. You get out what you put in and if he is seriously considering going back to Rome, we shouldn't try to keep him here. Hisheart definately isn't in it. I'd say the chances of him staying are 60-40 against him.
My team:

------ Barthez ------

G. Nev - Rio - Blanc - Mick

Becks - Scholes - Keane - Giggs / Duff

--- Ole / Giggs --- Ruud ---

2nd team:

------ Carroll ------

P. Nev - Brown - O'Shea - Finnan (?)

Chadwick - Butt - Fortune - Djordjic

--- Forlan --- Ole / Duff

BTW: kemo, just how much have you seen of Viana ?

Gazza, Viana looked terrific in the U21 tournament recently, was my first chance to see him and he seemed to be one of the best players in that tournament. His midfield partner was excellent too, but I can't remember his name!

I'm sure he's good, many speak high of him on here. I was asking kemo because he had not previously been on his top 100 list of players to sign. ;)

nah...for OLE ;)

IF there's any chance we can buy Ronaldo.. we have to go for it!! than mans showing glimpses of his best..and hopefully will be FULLY match fit in 5 months, according to the Brazilian coach...

We need a top quality centre back, two if Blanc leaves. Ferdinand, Nesta, Ayala standard. Hopefully Blanc stays because the PLC will probably say we can't afford two. My head agrees but the heart says we can't afford not to. Another full back is required (Finnan or Bridge, in my dreams but Fergie probably has some obscure, competent player lined up for 5mill).

My main concern is about the strikers. I think part of the problem with Veron was that he was bought in to help in Europe but was surplus to requirements in the premiership. It was impossible for Fergie to put his most expensive player on the bench last season, even though his form warranted it at times. If we buy Ronaldo will we have the same problem? Ruud and Ole is a class pairing. I would hate Ole to miss out because Fergie (or Nike) continued to use a non performing Ronaldo. I know Ronaldo is a dual world player of the year but there is no guarantee he will perform. Veron had similar credentials but look at his first year.

I would much rather we buy a lower profile youngster who could start as third choice (or at least not a guaranteed starter). Alternatively, we could buy Damien Duff as cover/rotation for Becks, Giggsy and striker.

If we had a wide open purse, I would go for:

--------------Barthez
Zanetti-Ferdinand-Southgate-Silvestre
Beckham-----Keano--Scholes-----Giggsy
--------van Nistelrooy-Ole

More realistically, it will be:

---------------Barthez
G. Neville-Ferdinand-Blanc-Silvestre
Beckham-----Keano--Scholes-----Giggsy
--------van Nistelrooy-Ole

First team:

-------------Barthez-----------

Gazza-----Nesta----Blanc----Bridge

Becks-----Keane---Scholes----Giggs

-----Van Nistelroy----Ole--------

Second team:

-------------Carroll------------

Finnan----O'Shea----Brown----Phil

Chadwick---Butt---Stewart---Duff

---------Forlan----DiCanio------

Out:
Silvestre for 10m
Veron swap for Nesta
Fortune for 2m

In:
Nesta swap for Veron
Duff for 14m
Bridge for 10m
Finnan for 7m
DiCanio for 3m

I didn't mean as a replacement for Chadwick Giggzy - which should have been obvious. I meant Luke Chadwick would welcome his arrival.......too subtle for you eh? ;)

Realistic shortlist:

Ferdinand(would slot right in, already knows many United players, quality defender)
or
Thurham-depending on the price.

Finnan
or
Brigde

Duff-without Giggs we lose so much penetration, with Duff we'd have another trickey/pacy type with a good score rate

Sell Seba to help fund these- <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

I don't think Duff will help us penetrate - he's an ugly bugger!

Just as well. Nothing worse than an ugly bugger penetrating.

Liv(or MArge ;) )...would it piss you off BIG time if Ronaldo replaced Ole???

Gazza I saw a what he can do on a Soccer show talking about Euorope's up and coming talent. the guy is good imo. I even so abit of him at the eur championships.
And besides Quieroz should know how good he is being Portugesse and the one who nutured the Figo's etc....

Yes. But because Ole hasn't yet shown us that he has nothing more to offer.

Apart from liking Ole for staying when he needn't have etc. a lot of my support for him has been because I thought he would be beneficial to the team. I always thought we would do better with Ole in the side - but not just because I liked him.

I also don't care for S.American players.

Why's that ?</strong><hr></blockquote>

I don't mean I don't think they're good - a lot of them are excellent, but I think that most of the time they are better suited to Latin leagues. Not saying there aren't exceptions, but Northern Europeans seem generally to slot in right away.
