Well, this new video surprised me....

There really is huge unity between the artists at the moment, and it is quite refreshing to see. Further to this, I would say as a genre, the UK has improved hugely compared to recent years.

Anyone know how these artists are doing in the US or if they are even breaking through? It is interesting to see there are lots a collaborations going on with their transatlantic cousins at the moment too.

Is there a difference between rap and hip-hop?

Just out of interest, like.

to me hip hop is the music whereas rap is a lyrical style - but i suppose the terms are kind of synonymous nowadays

I havent got a clue who most of those people are in the OPs video but the track wasnt too bad

You are from UK. You are a rapper. You call yourself Giggs.

You are fecking retarded.

It'll be like a Norwegian rapper calling himself Solskjær. Nobody will notice, eh?

a) This isn't really Hip Hop, it's Grime. Rap is possibly a fair description, but only Pro Green has any kind of history as an actual Hip Hop head.

b) Most of them are gimmicky posers with pointless lyrics no more inventive or interesting that the gimmicky posers currently dragging US Hip Hop down. IMO of course. I fully realise a large part of this is me growing up and not liking the direction it's taken.

c) The fact that UK based rap/lyricism, no matter how banal, is now getting some form of exposure and popularity is a good cause for celebration and a worthy achievement. It's a new style, I think it's vacuous and shite, but it's ours, so fair play.

However I hope people don't confuse it with, or assume it's our only output of, actual UK Hip Hop, which we've been doing for decades, and much less tossery than this.

UK Hip-Hop/Rap does not work and should be stopped.
