With all the loans, our U23 side is very young (nobody over 19, average age 17 in our last game). The kids are very good but can see them getting bullied a few times this season.

How has Dujon Sterling been so far this season?

I've only seen him in one game and he was good (we trashed Liverpool 4-1 and they were all pretty good to be fair!). We seem to be playing 3 at the back with DaSilva and Sterling as wing backs and they were both pretty well suited to their roles. Sterling scored.

Yeah I can see him emerging quickly before many noticed tbh.Seems to be an early developer (not saying he's not a good talent!).

Don't worry, we don't have anyone resembling a striker in our U23. You'll probably win.

Nah that policy is gone under LvG. We'll just play 19-20 yrs old too.

I actually don't mind it. I think the kids can learn a lot from playing with (and against) seasoned pros.

I remember a couple of years ago, we played your kids and Ashley Young was one of the "old geezers" in your side. I can't remember the result but it was good to see the young'uns going up against such an experienced player in a competitive environment.

Edit: No Schweinsteiger? I thought he was with the kids?

Nope. He's just training with them.

Seems a bit of a waste. They'd learn a hell of a lot from playing with him. I guess it's one thing to make him train with the U23s but too much of a slap in the face to make him travel across the country and play in front of hundreds of people.

Also, Chelsea TV says kick off is at 13.05, not 12:30 as stated in the OP.

Chelsea have huge depth of quality in every youth team, even with a raft of players out on loan. Doesnt mean they have the best academy, but they certainly have the "biggest". I'd put them as favourites for today.

I wonder if this U23 team shouldn't emulate United's first team system 4-2-3-1 and game principles? Wouldn't that help with their eventual integration in the first team? What is their average age? It's not like these players are still learning, or are they?

Agree that we should play the same formation in the reserves as the first team, but these players are still learning tactically.

Jay Da Silva is their best player. Usually Chelsea sides are packed full of good to very good players but no exceptional players. I think Jay Da Silva is exceptional.

His size is a concern though if he's gonna play fullback or wingback long term.

Mason Mount is up there amongst them too. Only 17 as well, quality player.

Agree, i only watched him against us but he was fantastic every time....

Equaliser, 5 minutes to win it now.

How did Mitchell do?

Good shift, switched around from right wing to striker during the game and even though he was a bit isolated he did help the team a lot. Very good work rate, nice movement, combined nicely at times. Still doesnt have that special aura around himself but its nothing unusual. Long injury, barely plays, teammates lack quality etc.
His dribbling is a bit off and he doesnt look fast as he was before, hopefully its because of lack of playing and lack of confidence and not because of the injury.

Cool thanks. I'm just happy he finally started (of course I'd then miss the match)... his pace is a strange one as the other day I saw him sprint the other day and he still looked quick but who knows - not like we've seen enough of him since he's come back to even judge! Dribbling was probably one of the things I'd have said he had over Marcus before marginally, he'd make the ball stick to his feet, so hopefully he can get that back to his game but it sounds encouraging.

Still worried about lack of a striker. Willock and Harrop look useful
