U21s: United vs. Norwich @ OT

Victory in this game will virtually seal it, right? With superior GD already to Fulham and Saints, victory will take us in top 4. We will need to lose last game by 7 goals at least to fall below Fulham. So basically win either of Norwich home or Reading away and qualify for playoffs.

Also read on manutd.com that from next year, this league of 22 teams will split in two divisions with top half of this year making first division. That objective is sealed for us and likes of Arsenal and Spurs are in danger of missing out.

Big credit to our defenders - only 14 goals conceded all seasons with a lot of different CB pairings.Obviously best in the league with Chelsea (23 goals conceded) following.

All of the keepers who have played have done very well aswell

Can't say I'm surprised. The likes of Amos, Thorpe and Mike Keane are seasoned veterans at this level, which isn't a good thing. The latter 2 in particular shouldn't have spent a second playing u21 footie this season.

All in all, we've had a young side this season and they've done very well, especially if they can finish strongly and get into the top 4. Joyce said the aim for the season was a top half finish. The danger now is that we keep players who have progressed quicker than expected and are ready for bigger things behind for another season at this level.

Yeah but I'd give credit to the rest of the defenders - Love,Charni,McNair, etc.Don't forget 4 of that 14 are conceded in our very first match against Liverpool, with both M.Keane and Thorpe in the side.

Anyway I reckon Weir will start today (replace Varela who's injured). We might see some young faces on the bench since the U18s already travelled to Stirling for a friendly - I won't be surprised if Rashford is in the fold.

Definitely. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. McNair, especially, has come on amazingly well this season. He's gone from a tiny, back-up academy midfielder to a proper u21 center-half in...what...2 years? Less? Interesting player.

For those that can't see tweets on here:

Joel Pereira, Varela, McNair, Ekangamene, James; Janko, Pearson, Rothwell, Andreas Pereira, Rowley; Wilson

I guess we shouldn't expect too many goals - United-matches on average have 2.3 goals in them (by far the fewest)
Norwich aren't that much better with an average of 3 goals each game

Norwich are 11th on the table with 8 wins, 3 draws and 8 defeats.

United practically guaranteed a top 4 spot with a win today - as they will reach 38 points and better GD than Fulham (who have played all their matches)
So with a win - only Liverpool, Chelsea and City can finish ahead of us. Well theoretically Sunderland can beat us if they win their last 2 matches and we lose 1 - IF they improve their GD quite a lot in those matches

I think I've got a stream, it's not live at the moment but it should be alright. PM if you want it.

Good interview with Rothwell in the build-up. Grounded lad.

Sunderland have only 1 game remaining and have a GD worse by 7 as it stands. if we win this the difference in GD will be 8 at least. We play Reading away, don't know whom Sunderland play but that game will need a swing of GD of 8 for them to get ahead of us. Unlikely.

A bit hard to move to Norway for that

Nah, just need a bit of dedication, is all. Where do you live? Your blog was on some Swedish site, wasn't it? So, Sweden..?

Boring first half. Norwich parking the bus, we're dominating possession but lacking quality in the final third. Rothwell fecked up our only decent chance so far, created by Janko.

Wilson hobbling off injured, replaced by Weir. A dull affair just got duller.

Periera moved up front. Is Ashley Fletcher injured?

Norwich down to ten men after some clown gets his second yellow for a dive.

How frustrating. Norwich got the draw they came for.
