A draw against North Korea is a bad result if you`re in a group also with Argentina & Mexico and overall it was a disappointment performance from the Young Lions too but......

Apparently 36 players who might have been selected for England were made unavailable for this tournament by their clubs.

And that was before the 21 man squad named saw 9 further withdrawals.

No doubt the tournament will be played at a shite team but this numbers are shocking

Clubs have been withdrawing players like crazy from this.

I think personally it was a bit dumb to have the u17s earlier in the off season and the u20s so close to the start of the season proper given that a 20 year old is more likely to be challenging for a first team spot.

TBH FIFA should have more sense than place this tournament a couple of weeks before all the major leagues resume. Also considering that a lot of Europe's top youngsters would've played last month in the European U19s.

spain hanging on by the skin of their teeth. cr puting the pressure on. shot of the crossbar, another off the keepers hands and nearly into his own net. spain comes back down and scores...3-1. that should do it with 7 minutes to go.

Watched North Korea get schooled by Mexico. Mexico's bald headed captain looks like a talented enforcer.

Right, watching this Mexico-England now then. Anyone good in this England side left following all the withdrawals? Mexico newbies saying good things about this Mexico side.

Penalty Mexico won by Erick Torres, defending was poor. The penalty was even worse, decent save.

Mexico aren't very good but England just haven't a clue how to keep the ball, win it back or even defend well - tactically they just don't know what's going on. Won't be watching them again.

It's the first time I've watched them and it's all a bit painful really. Possession running at 59:41 and England looking like the only thing they can think of when they get the ball is how fast they can give it back. It's not even about passing accuracy - the man with the ball just doesn't have a teammate to pass to.

Aye, painful's the perfect way to describe it. I come into the game half-looking to watch them for a laugh but they're so poor they even make that painful.

Thing is technically most of them haven't even looked that bad, they just don't know what to do with it and completely fall apart when they're pressured. Never fails to amaze me just how unintelligent they can look on the ball, but even off it they've looked like clumsy, headless chickens a lot of the time.

When they get it out wide and run at the Mexican defence they're ok but they can't do anything else except get bodies in front of each other and hope they get a nick on it when they stick a foot out aimlessly. Pretty shocking stuff. 12-1 in shots for Mexico-England.

Yep England are very poor but we shouldn't forget this is England's C-Team or even D-Team.

I'm not even sure there's anything wrong with the players. They just look dumb - when you see a player at the back looking for a route to play it out and the rest of the team has wandered off, leaving him with no option except for a hopeful punt, you've got to ask what the coaches are saying.

Are you English, Sean? I thought you were German.

But we don't deserve to go through in my opinion

Eastick pleased to emerge unscathed

England U20s Head Coach Brian Eastick saw his side round off their World Cup group games with a third successive draw on Thursday, as they shared a 0-0 scoreline with Mexico in Cartagena.

The result means that Eastick and his players must now wait and see the outcome of the other remaining World Cup games over the course of Friday and Saturday before they know if they have a place in the Second Round confirmed.

But given the performances and opposition they have faced in Group F over the last six days, Eastick feels that his players fully deserve a place in the knock-out stages.

"I would be disappointed for the players more than anybody if we don't go through to the next round," admitted Eastick after the game.

"For a side that was thrown together three weeks ago, they have worked so hard to come through what I believe was the toughest group in the competition unbeaten.

"We might not have scored any goals, but we've had chances in all of the games and I feel as though we have played well enough over the course of the three matches to deserve a place in the last 16.

"We weren't at our best today and I thought we were poor in the first half particularly but with the heat and humidity out there, it was always going to be very hard for us against a good Mexico side.

"Jack Butland saved the penalty and made another very good save to keep us level at half-time, but their 'keeper also made an excellent save from Callum McManaman's volley in the second half."

It has been a hard week for the squad, with three games in five days as well as the upheavel of moving base from Medellin to Cartagena inbetween games, so Eastick revealed his players will be given the chance to recover somewhat before they learn what the next step is to be.

With the Second Round games taking place next Tuesday and Wednesday should England qualify, it gives the group an opportunity to recharge the batteries a little and then begin preparations again.

"The players will be able to rest and recover now, there will be a pool recovery for them in the morning and some more work for those who haven't played but we will allow them to chill out a little because these last two games have taken a lot out of them," revealed Eastick.

"You must remember that it's still pre-season for all of them, so to come out here and play in these conditions against three good teams without defeat is a great achievement for them and another step on their learning curve."

Are you English, Sean? I thought you were German.
I've only lived in Germany.

Saido Berahino's in the England squad, isn't he? How has he looked so far? He seemed like a good player in the Euro u17s a while back.

Group B results
Portugal 1-0 New Zealand
Uruguay 0-1 Cameroon

So England through........i can't believe that with three 0-0's

However it's a really great achievement (Over 40 players were made unavailable by their clubs) and it's the first time the U20's have got out of their group stage since 1997.......well done Young Lions!!!!!!!!!!!

My first time seeing this u20 Spain team and they're 3-0 up after 13 minutes...crazy.

Sergi Roberto with a goal of real class for the first, just passed it into the net, and then an excellent pass for the third - talked highly of by Barcelona fans and looks quality. Pacheco with a lovely disguised pass for the second too.

Edit: 4-0, Vasquez with an 18 minute hattrick.
