As long as Shakhtar don't beat Sociedad we'll still go through as we'll beat the former at home.

Anticlimactic half after the strong performance in Sociedad. A few nice moments from the likes of Wilson, Rothwell and Janko but we haven't really been in this aside from the opening 10 minutes or so.

Leverkusen-keeper sent off, penalty to United 5 seconds into the second half.

wilson gets one back through penalty. Leverkusen keeper sent off

I would love to Pearson in the first team. He brings qualities which have been missing for some time. I am not sure if he can cope with the level for some time now though

two saves in a row from the Leverkusen keeper saving certain goals

3-1 FT.

We didn't deserve to lose that but then I'm not sure we deserved to win the reverse fixture. Anyway, plenty of positives after a solid second half.

Deserved a lot more from that second half. Leverkusen were pretty filthy and had 6 yellows and a red even with the ref letting a few other things go which should have been bookings

Given how the group has gone, they have to be pleased to just need a win at home to Shakhtar to progress.

Random thought - not just us picking up red cards, 30 in the group stage as a whole so far. That's compared to just 12 in the senior competition, pretty big disparity.

From the highlights, our midfield looked very good. Rothwell and Pearson both show great promise.

Indeed. Very mature performances from the both of them. Rothwell's high pressing was impressive, he's a very quick lad.
