Welbeck was superb. Fergie compared him to Kanu and the similarity is amazing. I'd always thought he did his best work on the wing but his future is definitely as a striker. And potentially a very good one too

2 magnificent finishes from Welbeck and and overall great performance from him, caused the Liverpool defence all kinds of problems. Love how natural he looks with the ball at his feet, you can really see where the Kanu comparisons are coming from with that. Always disappointing to lose a 2 goal lead but at the end it was a fair result.

Wellbeck is quality, hes still so young I forget hes eligble at this age group. His 2nd goal was a proper finish. I really hope this lad breaks the mould and becomes a top top player for us. Never ever a winger. Glad he plays for us
He's so young in fact he'll be eligible for the u18s next season as well.
If my memory serves me correct, Kanu was playing in a champions cup final at 17. I hope Welbeck keeps progressing though, United do need a striker to come through the reserves.
Wellbeck is a young 17 too. He doesn't look much older than 15.
Hopefully he'll stop growing soon, put a bit of meat on his bones and establish himself in our reserves. It's been a long time since anyone decent came up through the ranks. Too long.
Jury's still out on Simpson and Evans.
Pique and Rossi didn't technically "come up through the ranks" either. And neither of them have really established themselves. Especially Rossi (!)
I would say Fletcher, Brown and O'Shea are the last youngsters to come up through the ranks and hold down a place in the first-team squad. And they are all in their mid to late twenties now.
Its alot rarer for a home grown forward to come through the ranks and do well. C’mon Danny break the mould!!!!!

Hughes and Whiteside were the only ones. Scholes is a midfield player even though he started as a forward.
