Hopefully there are rivers.

Gollini, Love, Evans, Grimshaw, McNair, Pearson, Weir, Rudge, Harrop, Pereira, Barmby

Halftime. Pretty even game, Reading came into it well in the last 20 mins or so and Gollini made a couple of saves. Pearson is playing really well.

A young U16's lose 1-4 against a much stronger Reading outfit who deserved their win...Fletcher with our goal!

Gorre has come on, i heard on twitter. Nice that he hasn't been released outright yet even though he might be searching for other clubs.

How were the performances ? Who were the standouts ? And how was Pereira ?

Thanks for the updates in the first half, btw Sally.

Oh damn didn't know about this match. How did we get on?

Pereira scores a fair few for a midfield player, is that not the second recent game where he has scored to decisive goal?

Didn't see much at all of the second half so can't comment.

First half - United started well and Pereira scored early on. Weir set him up with a chipped ball through the defence, Pereira took it down with his right foot and slotted it into the bottom corner, simple finish really. We didn't have a proper centre forward on; Barmby, Pereira and Harrop we floating about. We didn't seem to have a lot of chances. Pearson was our best player first half I thought, he's just first to everything in midfield, tidy passing and aggressive in winning the ball back. Evans played well, set up McNair for a header with a great cross which should have been a goal. Reading played well too, it was an even half, Gollini had to make a couple of decent saves.

Gollini had an excelant game as did Pearson, yet again. Barmby had to play upfront and worked his butt off against 2 big CB's even though he is not really suited to that role. We defended well and ended with a good victory in a tough even game against a big physical side.

U18s: United 1 Reading 0

United's youngsters maintained an unbeaten start to the Barclays Under-18 Premier League Elite Group with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Reading.

Paul McGuinness' side ensured the first competitive home fixture of 2013 was a winning one thanks to an early strike which ultimately proved decisive.

Andreas Pereira grabbed the all-important goal, finishing with cool precision after being picked out by James Weir inside the area, as he continues to impress in a more advanced role. Although the Reds were good value for a first-half lead, Italian keeper Pierluigi Gollini was called upon to make a couple of smart saves to preserve the lead.

Paddy McNair should really have doubled the advantage before the break when failing to find the net with a header from a promising position but Jack Rudge had to make one clearance off the line as the Royals fully contributed to a keenly-contested encounter.

Gollini continued to look unbeatable in the Reds goal in the second half, illustrating his agility and shot-stopping ability to keep the visitors at bay. McGuinness introduced Kenji Gorre, who has been training with Celtic, in a bid to add a little more width to his team and Ben Pearson, fresh from a Reserves run-out in midweek, helped keep a grip on the centre of midfield.

Donald Love was booked in stoppage time as the Reds were forced to hold out as the clash became a real tussle with the hosts forced to attempt to play on the break towards the end.

United: Gollini; Love, Grimshaw, McNair, Evans; Weir, Pearson, Rudge, Barmby, Harrop (Gorre 75); Pereira; Barmby. Subs not used: Sutherland. Barber, Ioannou, Fletcher.

I really like the look of Gollini at this level.

From the match report against Chelsea:

In a physical affair, United were disciplined tactically and looked to hit the Blues on the break with Andreas Pereira working hard in an unfamiliar striking role due to James Wilson's absence through injury."

Cheers lads. Should give us a bit more edge back when he returns, and let the likes of Pereira and Barmby get on with what they do best. We've done well to keep the results coming in his absence.
