Barclays Under-18 Premier League
Kick-off: Saturday, 31 August, 11:00 AM BST
Location: Trafford Training Centre, Carrington, Trafford

Four games in and none shown live, pretty poor that. Don't know if there's something going on at Carrington causing these games to be played on a pitch that can't be televised (think that was the case Wednesday?).

Looks like highlights at 8.30pm on Sunday.

The Wolves game was played on the u16s pitch next the usual match pitch, which didn't even look mowed, so there seems to be something going on. The way things were set up for the Wolves game you missed most of the action by the near touchline as the substitute boxes were in the way. Other than that the camera was fine and, obviously, moving the boxes and spectators over to the other side shouldn't be that hard.

What the hell is the point of MUTV if they aren't going to show these matches? (Hint: no-one gives a feck about the Paddy Crerard show)

Apparently the U18 pitches have been having work done on undersoil heating and aren't ready yet, hence these games being played on the U16 pitch which hasn't got proper camera positions etc. Makes sense I guess.

Team for today anyway: J Pereira, C Evans, Barber, McConnell, Ioannou, Goss, Harrop, Willock, Wilson, A Fletcher, Redmond.

Subs: Croskery, O'Hara, Rashford, Reid, Kehinde.

Tosin Kehinde - 15 year old nigerian defender (born december 97) ...apparently

1-1 at HT Wilson with ours. Fletcher linking up well with Wilson. Wilson's movement really is fantastic. Redmond with some good stuff. Harrop impressive.

U18s: United 3 Norwich 2

Manchester United's Under-18s made it three wins in eight days, but they didn't have it all their own way against a good Norwich City side at the Aon Training Complex on Saturday.

Two strikes from James Wilson, sandwiching an effort from Joshua Harrop, eventually proved enough to win the game despite an edgy finish set up by the visitors' second goal.

The Canaries started as brightly as their yellow shirts, but United’s lack of early concentration contributed in no small way to the visitors’ early pressure. Thankfully, fortune favoured the Reds during those early exchanges and they survived one or two close calls.

In fact, United should have taken the lead in the 17th minute, against the run of play, when the Norwich defence allowed Ashley Fletcher acres of room, but the young striker’s shot flew wide of the target. It was the first of numerous chances for Fletcher who, with an ounce more luck, could have bagged a double hat-trick across the ninety minutes.

As the first half unfolded, the Reds began to give the visitors' defence some uneasy moments, with skipper Wilson twice going close to opening the scoring. Sean Goss was also inches away from finding the net when his long-range strike took a deflection and thudded against the angle of the Norwich frame.

This spell of pressure bore fruit in the 29th minute from the corner yielded by Goss’ near miss. Harrop sent over a peach of a corner, which the Canaries' defence failed to clear, and Wilson showed his predatory instincts to clip the ball over the line.

United deserved the 1-0 lead after taking the initiative away from their lively guests, but barely two minutes later Norwich were level. Cameron King delivered a teasing centre and Carlton Morris capitalised on a lapse in the Reds' defence to claim the equaliser and ultimately level the scoreline for half-time.

Wilson threatened to put the Reds ahead again on the hour mark when his pace carried him into the Norwich area but with the Canaries’ defence backtracking, his hurried shot flew well wide.

United would only have another five minutes to wait before going 2-1 up, with Wilson again involved as he tested Liam Priestley in Norwich's goal with another low drive. The keeper managed to parry but Harrop was on hand to crack home on the rebound.

The Reds' shot-stopper Joel Pereira pulled off a fabulous point-blank save of his own to preserve United's lead, giving Wilson the platform to extend it with eleven minutes remaining by taking the ball round Priestley before firing into an unprotected net.

Morris grabbed his second goal of the game for Norwich with two minutes left on the clock to set-up an exciting climax to an entertaining contest. Nonetheless, United were worthy winners as their start to the Academy League season gathers momentum.

United: J Pereira; Evans, Ioannou, McConnell, Barber; Harrop, Goss, Willock, Redmond; Fletcher (Croskery 73), Wilson.Subs not used: O'Hara (GK), Rashford, Reid, Kehinde.

Good to see Wilson continuing with goals, natural born goalscorer, massive potential, always looks so unfazed after scoring, anyone at the game to see how the new recruits got on, lack of coverage so far annoying

Glad Harrop appears to be progressing as I hoped. Knew he was a special talent ever since I saw him about two years ago. He is a natural footballer.

There looks to be a good balance in the team this year, perhaps better then last year as we actually have some natural defenders and the centre mid of Willock and Goss seem to complement each other well and give some of the flair players licence to roam. Fletcher gives us a more physical presence up front and takes some of the goal scoring burden off Wilson.

Some clarification would be nice, given (as you say) live U18 football is one of the big selling points of the channel.

Just seen this on the official site...

"There seems to be a rumour going around that MUTV will not be screening Academy matches live from the Aon Training Complex this season but we can stress this is not the case. The next scheduled home date for the Under-18s is on 21 September when Southampton provide the opposition. (AM)"
