A note that the U18s' game with Chelsea on Saturday at Carrington is not live on MUTV but will be shown in full at 17.15 BST

Thanks slavo!

Ah crap.

Should be a good game though. Tough test.

United line up from Twitter;

Sutherland, Love, Evans, McNair, Grimshaw, Pearson, Weir, Rothwell, Wilson, Rudge, Daehli.

Subs; Byrne, Joel Pereira, Andreas Pereira, Barmby, Ioannou.

HT 0-0. No real chances at either end. Pearson Uniteds best player with another tigerish midfield display

Perhaps you should spoiler the updates since it's on MUTV later.

United take the lead in the 82nd minute

Done but if someone plans to see it on MUTV later, shouldn't open the thread tbh.

People will come looking for streams as the time draws nigh, especially as the usual places don't seem to be offering any.

What a cock up for the goal.

Had a great day. Met Nicky Butt, Choccy, Ryan Giggs and had a decent long chat with Paddy Crerand.

First half was very scrappy. Second was mostly united. Jack Barmby came on at half time and played left back. He was very very good going forward. Misjudged a few things at the back, to be expected but did well.

Nice. Sounds like a great day out.

Who all played well/badly ?

MANCHESTER UNITED 1

CHELSEA 0

Manchester United's Under-18s collected a hard-fought three points with a 1-0 win against much-vaunted Chelsea at Carrington.

The Blues are generally regarded as having one of the best youth set-ups in the country, with some justification, but a bizarre own goal by Nortei Nortey proved decisive in pleasant weather in the North West.

There was not a great deal between the two sides but Chelsea had the best attempt of the first half when captain Alex Davey fired a splendid shot just wide of Jonny Sutherland's goal.

Two substitutions and a tactical adjustment, that led to Jack Barmby playing in an unfamiliar wing-back position, helped United find some rhythm. Soon after the break, Byrne was presented with a one-on-one opportunity but Ben Killip pulled off a good stop.

Joe Rothwell was through in similar circumstances but was denied by a defensive block and the Reds were unlucky not to score when Byrne stretched to meet an Andreas Pereira cross but saw the ball hit a post and roll to safety.

The pressure eventually told as James Weir released Byrne again and Nortey rushed back but his backpass bobbled past Killip for a calamitous own goal.

After Byrne passed up an opportunity to wrap up the victory, Chelsea piled on the pressure towards the end and went closest to grabbing an equaliser with a George Cole drive that swerved off target.

United: Sutherland; Love, McNair, Grimshaw, Evans (Barmby 46); Weir, Pearson, Rothwell (A.Pereira 66), Rudge, Daehli, Wilson (Byrne 46). Subs not used: J.Pereira, Ioannou.

Considering interest in the reserves is relatively low, you'd think United would want sites like this to promote interest in the reserves by providing some free highlights.

The CB needs to pass it outside the goal posts, and the keeper should have taken a touch first since the pass was 'on goal'. Reminds me of the one Gary Neville scored a few years back for (or rather against) England.

Yeah, Neville/Robinson against Croatia.

Unfortunate with the bobble but I suppose that's pretty poor kicking technique.

Nice. Sounds like a great day out.

Who all played well/badly ?

McNair and Grimshaw were vey good for me.

Weir showed yet more glimpses and I was impressed with Jack Barmby in an unfamiliar role. Very good footballer.

Rudge was in and out the game and Wilson never really got a sniff. Rothwell looked good.

Ben Pearson is simply epic!

we need to get highlights packages back up on a more regular basis.

Not going to happen, MUTV sent me an email in an off handed way threatening legal action as it's their intellectual property. Nowhere to host it YouTube etc and even if it does go up, it'll get taken down straight away when put on the blogs etc
