Location: Staplewood Training Ground, Marchwood, Hampshire (3,000)

1-0 Southampton 25 mins gone.

Little dink into the box, their striker didnt panic, turned well and placed the ball passed Gollini. No other real chances, we have slighty more possession.

According to Mr. Mujac on twitter, Januzaj is out due to a knee injury.

that last corner sums up our first half. Strangely inefficient today

1-0 HT

Alright in midfield, dull at either end.

To me it seems United deliberately are turning away tall, physical players...we hardly have any players with a physical presence who is 20 or younger. Blackett is one out of very few I can think of - and we seem to struggle against strong sides because of it.

Iannou is pretty physical, but he's injured as of now. Pearson is a tenacious lad. Although I think Perriera is still not ready.

Having a good game despite the result. Captain material.

Rowe off aswell, good as he was a decent threat. He had a good game down the flanks.

I really like the look of Ioannou, shame our injury issues extend right through to the Academy.

Focusing on young players who are just big for their age is not, and never should be, the United way.

Discarding them because they are tall should not be the United way as well. I am not saying we are -I just find it strange that "all" our talented youngsters are 1.70

We've had some big units in all positions in recent years. But central midfield, which perhaps you are thinking of due to the issues in the senior team, perhaps has only seen Pogba fit that description. That much I will agree on.

I can't imagine tall skilful kids are being turned away for being tall.

The United coaches are all midgets with a grudge against tall people. I think it's called the Napoleon Complex.

Bit of a ridiculous though in my opinion. McCullough is one you missed and Thorpe is to a certain extent. M. Keane has grown and filled out impressively in the last couple of years.

A lot of players in the academy at the moment are still growing, when you sign players up from the age of 9 and 10 I imagine it's hard to say who will grow the fastest. I seriously doubt they weed out the kids that grow the most in the younger age groups.

Look at the that played for England in the victory shield. Rashford is very small but he is still young for that age group. But Mitchell seemed big enough and Borthwick-Jackson was pretty big. The current academy crop just happen to be a pretty small one.
